No She Diiiiuuun't!
How curious that every time Hillary scores a win at the polls or primaries some fabricated race card is flipped by Obama's supporters. Last time it was over whether his adolescent drug use might be a detracting factor in the General Election (YES!) and this time over comments she made about Martin Luther King. I predict that there will be at least one more attempt to create a race issue where there is none to throw the black vote to Obama before the nomination. Because if it looks like the chips are down throw your chips in the "You Racist!" ring and get everyone stirred up over NOTHING. This time she got smart and didn't cave to being played-last time she accepted the resignation of the poor campaign guy who told the truth about the fact that Obama's adolescent fondness for snow, ice, coke, nickel bag, weed and whatever else you want to call it doesn't play well with a general population of moms trying to keep their kids off the street. It does in fact make him exceedingly unattractive to a general election audience. This time she stood her ground and said essentially- any REASONABLE person could not possibly misinterpret her remarks to take offense. That is a very kind politically correct diplomatic way of saying what I would have said -"GET A LIFE AND STOP WITH THE BULLS*&^*%*T ALREADY" The third time that it happens I hope they they hire the aforementioned campaign guy back to say loudly on every major news outlet that playing the Race card to take offense where none could reasonably be taken makes Obama exceedingly unattractive to a general election audience.
The BMW driving Black Clergy who stand to gain a fortune if Obama is elected in direct Faith Based funding for their churches in the gajillions are now taking offense where none was intended- and where none could reasonably be implied.
Hillary apparently made a comment (paraphrased) that said something like the zenith of Martin Luther King's achievement came to fruition when Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Let me tell you as a Senator what she was conveying that the Black Clergy apparently didn't get. She made a totally historically accurate comment that reflected the nature of political and cultural movements along the lines of "how a Bill becomes a Law." She was stating that the genious of Martin Luther King finally became statute changing the legal landscape not just the political/cultural landscape when Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat, made into Federal law the most significant sweeping Civil Rights statute that has made it possible to ENFORCE
with all the power of Federal Law those ideals that Martin Luther King cherished and died for.
It was in fact an enormous compliment not a detraction from Martin Luther King. It was in fact the perspective you would expect any Senator to have regarding the evolution of grass roots movements into Federal statutes. It was an enormous compliment to MLK in fact that he mobilized such a huge grass roots movement that completely changed the cultural landscape such that his ideals became codified into the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Now it's not just immoral or socially condemned to discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, you can sue for money damages for it. That made people watch themselves. When was the last time someone put your ideals into a Federal Law. When was the last time your ideals created an entire enforcement department in the US Justice Department like the Civil Rights Division. She was stating that his achievement was astounding. And they took offense.
NO WHITE PERSON in the history of American politics outside Lyndon Johnson's historic act in signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has done more for African Americans nor championed the causes dear to African Americans, nor raised more money for African Americans, nor fought racism than William Jefferson Clinton. He was such a friend to the African American community that white people speculated and spread rumors he had a black love child somewhere hidden in the mountains of Arkansas or that he shipped to the Netherlands to get out of the public eye. There has never in the history of the country been a more cooperative relationship between any white couple and the African Americans across this country than that the Clintons tried to achieve and model for the rest of the country to embrace.
More African Americans held high public office, including Cabinet members appointed by Clinton than at any time previously.
White People cannot stand what they perceive as the character assassination and defamation of being called falsely racists. As a civil rights attorney I can tell you that there is such a backlash that you can raise Defamation as a defense against someone calling you a racist in an employment discrimination context. The kind of stuff being now played nationally resonates with white people, who vote both in primaries and in general elections, and creates division where there should be none-because it's ludicrous. Hillary was absolutely correct.
Note to Black Clergy who are supposed to be fostering Love and Unity instead of obscenely trumping up race offense ridiculously:
Good White Christian People everywhere consider Martin Luther King a highly revered figure; a modern martyr. There have been martyrs since Christ died and rose. Saint Stephen was the first one. Every Mass the priest recites a litany of saints and martyrs of people that I barely heard of including Linus, Cletus, Clemens, Sixtus, Cornelius, Siprius, etc. I visited the Catacombs again in Rome. It's been something like the fourth time I went there. All the Chicago Black Clergy should go there to get some perspective. This is where the early Christian martyrs met in secret because they were highly persecuted in Rome (the first sort of churches). They could be arrested just for meeting in public proclaiming the name of Jesus. They were buried there in the catacombs originally. Nero, the Roman emperor at the height of the persecutions fed Christians to Lions in the Colluseum for sport and tied them to posts in his extensive gardens, doused them with olive oil and lit them up like garden Tiki Torches- he invented the burning at the stake. There have been martyrs for the faith who were crucified upside down like Saint Peter and his wife, beheaded martyrs, martyrs who suffered gruesome tortures of sword and fire. Joan of Arc was lit up in a bonfire of the vanities for having a vision that mobilized armies and saved her country. We recognize them all- every one of the Christian martyrs of the faith.
Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech is hailed by most thinking people of all colors as one of the greatest moments in US political history of the ranking with the signing of the Declaration of Independence wherein the true vision of equality that the founders had before their time came to fruition in the courage of a visionary prophet of peace. Most non-violent civil disobedient types of all colors draw great inspiration from him.
I am proud of Hillary for standing her ground and telling people to GROW UP.
It is not Clergy-like to stir up offense and division out of thin air when none was intended for monetary gain. It is evil. Martin Luther King might even be ashamed.
He was for Love, Unity, Peace, and Truth, not stirring up trumped up nonsense.
No one Wins when people carry on like this- the only thing it does is make people vote for guys who think Ketchup is a vegetable because they are sick of the bullsh(*&^t.
SO STOP IT PASTORS.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, [it does not take offense frivolously] it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1st Corinth.13.
As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in Love.
