More Disturbing

China's One Child Policy

Takes another victim (or two)- A baby and her mother were victimized by the China One Child Policy and it went viral on the internet. China in its population control directives require that people only have one child or pay an exorbitant fine/fee to the government. If you can't pay the fee, you can't keep the child. Only wealthy people have more than one or people wait, saving a half a lifetime and have their second years and years later.
This woman lost her child to a FORCED abortion at SEVEN MONTHS. At that point the child is viable. (My sister was two month early premie).
Here the child lies next to her mother on a post that went around the world. click:

This is the sort of the thing catholic bloggers should be insanely fighting not contraception at Catholic U.
The UN and every Human Rights org on the planet should be on this.
There is an organization in America who is on top of it: the Jubilee Campaign and Law of Life Project run by Sam Casey, Esq. (former Law Professor and Former head of the Christian Legal Society.)

Its a religious liberty issue when the government forces an act against someone's conscience.
The government under the HHS mandates is not telling anyone that they should take any pill or avail of the insurance. There is a difference. A huge difference.

Public Outcry over Forced Abortion in China
The international press picks up the story of Feng Jianmei and brings the injustice of the One-Child Policy into the public eye.
Officials dumped Ms. Feng's baby at her side following a forced abortion last week.

June 14, 2012

Dear Friend,

Earlier this week, we sent out a heartbreaking story about Feng Jianmei's forced abortion.

You told friends and family.  You called congress.  (One woman sent 18 letters to congress and arranged an in-person meeting with her representative.)  You spread the story like wildfire, and yesterday that fire ignited the International media.

Chai Ling spoke about abortion on Al Jazeera English, and you can see the mainstream coverage here:
 ABC
 NBC

Thank you for shining a light on the dark truth of the One-Child Policy.  That pressure is working.  Today the Chinese government apologized to Feng Jianming and promised an investigation.  Cao Ruyi's case is still in question, but we hope that the officials who threatened her are now re-thinking their intent to abort her baby. Meanwhile, the public outcry in China continues as citizens voice their horror online.

There are renewed calls for the end of the One-Child Policy.  The end of the policy is nearer now than ever.  We rejoice because the world has begun to wake up and open its eyes to this crime against humanity.  (For something that incriminates motherhood is in itself a crime.)

We ask you to keep this issue in the public eye.  Shout it from the rooftops!  You have a part to play in the end of the One-Child Policy, and we are praying for you all.

With hope,
The All Girls Allowed Team

Friend, you are at the very core of the movement to end the One-Child Policy and the suffering it causes. You can act today to help women like Cao Ruyi and ensure that what happened to Jianmei never happens again.

  • Please PRAY for Feng Jianmei and her family, and for the protection of Ms. Cao and her unborn baby.
  • CALL the office of your congressional representative, or WRITE to them using this  form letter. Let them know what is taking place in China and ask them to use their influence to promote justice for women in China.
  • GIVE to All Girls Allowed's forced abortion intervention efforts. You can give online HERE, and write "Forced Abortion Efforts" in the dedication line. We'll support the direct intervention efforts of volunteers when possible, and we'll help cover the fines of parents in under threat of forced abortion.

  •
    YOU CAN ACT.

Support intervention in forced abortion cases by giving

    and putting
     "Forced Abortion"
    in the dedication line.

We will use those funds to support intervention efforts
    or pay birth permit fines
    for women under threat.

    DISTURBING

    How Bought Can You Be?

In yet another media flash dance on the issue of so called 'religious liberty' of insurance mandates Roman Catholic Cardinal Wuerl
notes to Fox news guy that he doesn't define other people when it comes to whether Mormons are really Christians.

    http://foxnewsinsider.com/2012/05/27/cardinal-wuerl-explains-why-the-catholic-church-is-suing-the-government-over-contraception-mandate/

THE QUESTION: DO YOU THINK MORMONS ARE TRUE CHRISTIANS, 7:26 (toward end)

Wuerl is supposed to be famous for being a teaching theologian who ran a Seminary in Pittsburgh and started one here. If he can't recite one reason why Mormon theology is not Christian much less Catholic it is because he is a tool of the Republicans who are running a Mormon. Mormonism is a cult. Romney, the leader of his political party actually did mission work to convert catholics in Northern France to Mormonism- a belief system created by a 14 year old false self proclaimed prophet who puts Jesus on a par with Lucifer his spirit brother. Very very disturbing. And another obvious telling sign that the HHS litigation is purely politically motivated. There were a thousand points of cooperation that the church could have discussed before the grandstanding.

A Roman Catholic Cardinal cannot articulate any discernment regarding one of the most powerful cults in America or whether it is really Christian. That was the most newsworthy part of the whole episode.
    Really.
Not only is Wuerl a Cardinal but he is now in the Doctrine of the Faith crowd meaning he should know church doctrine- well. And he can't explain why Mormonism isn't Christianity or refuses to? I am not ashamed of the gospel.
Perhaps he should read Rick's book.  I like Donny Osmond, Robert Redford and skiing in Utah too, but Mormonisn is not Christianity. Jesus Christ is not the spirit brother of Lucifer. Jesus is Lord of heaven and earth.  (the guy wearing the devil shirt while explaining the trinity after Rick cracks me up-)

Here is how Robert Barron explained the Trinity- if I say "Je M'interroge" or I ask myself or Yo me pregunta, I have an awareness of some aspect of my consciousness that has a separateness within the same mind. That is a little like how the Holy Trinity can be three aspects of the same essence of beingness which is God.

    Like Children

    Lest you be Like Children

You cannot enter the Kingdom. Suffer the little children come to me-for to such belong the Kingdom of heaven.

If you be like children put yourself in the position of one. Try to imagine you are one on the street living homeless and hungry, or in an orphanage without attention of any one loving parent but superficially tended to without a room of your own.

Would you rather have any parent? Should you rather have any parent- one or two? Some single people are adopting children and providing lives for them. I know a single woman who raised two girls she adopted from India who otherwise would have lived in orphanages until they were sold to prostitution in all likelihood. Would you rather these children not be adopted if a stable employed
loving gay couple of the same gender adopted them.

The Archdiocese in Washingotn, DC got so repulsed at the suggestion that they cancelled ALL adoptions just because they found the later prospect immoral from a doctrinal standpoint. If you are a child in an indian orphanage who will have a life of bare subsistence poverty tended to by orphanage workers and had an opportunity to be adopted by someone through Catholic Charities, you don't any longer have that opportunity because Catholic Charities in DC doesn't do adoptions any more. The DC government made them not discriminate against gays so they said- we'll show them. We won't do ANY adoptions any more. So there. Because they don't want gays adopting. If you are a child would you rather be that child in india in an orphanage or someone adopted into a home in America with loving parents of the same gender?  Two of opposite genders might be ideal but any two is better than homeless on the street or living with an abusive drunk or drug addict who is neglectful and subjecting a child to starvation or danger. Kids are put into the foster care system then adoption scenarios from court adjudicated neglect situations sometimes.  A home with no neglect is better than no home or one where there is neglect- no matter the gender or sexual orientation of the parent.  It is appallingly absurd, stupid and morally irresponsible to suggest that
because the family is run by a gay person or two that this is 'child abuse' as some weird theories go.  A gay person can clothe and feed a child and drive them to the dentist and piano lessons as well as a straight one. Given the choice of starvation on the street and a home with a gay person the Archdiocese apparently says 'night night' don't let the rats bite.

They did the same thing for insurance of spouses if you can imagine. Because they don't want gays to give their spouses medical insurance they just cancelled all spousal insurance. (In the name of the great healer Jesus) It didn't matter if a spouse might be a diabetic needing insulin or whether a spouse of an archdiocese worker who might have worked there a decade needed life saving medical treatments. They cancelled all of it. This is morally indefensible. It's a terrible witness to Christ.

It is estimated that  750-1000 priests have died of AIDS. It is reported that catholic priests are three to four times the national average carriers of the HIV/AIDS virus- because about a third of them are suspected to be struggling with their homosexuality.
Do you think they might have benefitted from free condoms on campus? How about people on campus they may be dealing with?

The Archdiocese should remember the Pharisees who thought Jesus immoral because he cured on the Sabbath. It violated a law- no working on the Sabbath, but for a higher good- to heal. Sometimes they lose the trees and the forrest. And its insane. If forced to comply with the HHS mandate they are likely to do the same thing. In the name of Jesus the healer, we'll show them- just shut the whole hospital mess down. This is republican Ego, not Jesus.

And by the way, if 750-1000 priests have died of AIDS, that means that the government has a legitimate compelling interest in regulating health prevention on catholic campuses where priests teach when one third of them are latent or practicing homosexuals. Google it boys.

This is a church trying way too hard to be pretty and preppy and not enough to be Jesus. It is a scandal that they have lost the moral vision they were entrusted with. There is really no excuse for it. It's plainly immoral.  The leadership of the Washington, DC Archdiocese needs to go back to Seminary and the
Chancellor- don't get me started. Do they believe in property and asset preservation more than Jesus?  They would rather pay lawyer friends of the Chancellor than pay expanded insurance for its employees and students while they pay millions in not so secret scandal settlements--FROM INSURANCE?  Any cursory scan of the on line DC Superior Court docket shows that the Archdiocese of Washington, DC has been sued over 20 times- that doesn't mention the cases that settled before they got there and I haven't even checked the federal docket yet. Something is foul and should be seriously investigated.

Should the Archdiocese of Washington, DC be actually two Archdiocese now? The numbers are huge and suggest it might be time to create another diocese in DC and let the Maryland suburbs run with the leadership in place now who focus most predominantly on elementary schools in the suburbs.
The needs in the District are overwhelmingly for housing, full employment, and issues of justice, not just elementary education which is the maryland suburban focus. Justice compels things like you don't let kids rot on the street- you find them homes and you don't care what the parents do with their private sexuality. That is the law in the District. In Maryland they play a different game.

With all this misdirected indignation, furor and resources I have to ask- is Wuerl gay? Me thinks he doth protest too much. The people who are loudest against gayness are often those conflicted by their own homosexual desires and reactions or fighting their own demons.  If someone devotes an entire pastoral letter on gay bashing you should ask yourself- is your pastor gay?

    A Priest And An Impressionist

Father Barron in his Catholicism series (should be mandatory viewing in every parish) discusses a famous impressionist painting and notes that up close it looks like a bunch of dots. Pointalism to use the precise term.  If you pull back to get perspective you can see the actual image- of people with umbrellas
in that case taking a stroll.  Pointalism has light dots, colored dots, black or darker dots and spaces in between.  The image as a whole looks beautiful while up close it looks like random dots, some dark ones, some light ones. This is like how we view life now close up, and if we are in the middle of a drama we might be the darker dot looking at spaces. But someone looking at the whole is going to see something beautiful in an image that uplifts them perhaps that contains beauty and order.  Perhaps that is why suffering and pain can be redemptive- you suffer the darkness but the whole picture provides beauty. The brief spot of darkness has its higher function.
The underlying creation is founded on Love because the Logos, or raison d'être is love- which is God. God is Love. So everything he created is imbued with it in its essence.

    Give me Liberty

Or Give Me Death Means something to the Pastors being persecuted by internment in forced labor camps in North Korea as was reported recently by Voice of the Martyrs. For preaching they are sentenced to harsh manual labor until they die. It also means something to the people being prosecuted in India under anti-conversion laws where Judges are routinely threatened with death if cases are dismissed when prosecuting christians. Pastors in Iran and Pakistan subject to blasphemy laws are under capital sentences on a death watch. This is what religious persecution looks like. This is what people like former Justice Department attorney Brent McBurney are fighting through an organization called ADVOCATES INTERNATIONAL. According to their prayer card they would like to remind us of 1 Samuel 12:23. Their mission statement reads "Encouraging and enabling Advocates to meet locally, organize nationally, cooperate regionally and link globally to promote justice, rule of law, religious freedom, reconciliation and integrity." www.advocatesinternational.org  HERE  703-894-1084.

The head of the organization recently returned from Albania where there are restrictive church registration laws that threaten to drive worship underground as in the days of the old Soviets.  Advocates International functions effectively like the international arm of the Christian Legal Society and is comprised of catholic, protestant and evangelical of all stripes legal professionals. They work in collaboration with various religious liberty promoting organizations on worthy efforts to establish the principles of freedom of religion, particularly focused on countries making martyrs of Christians.

The work they have potential to do to highlight these abuses and offenses is invaluable. They provide insight and have networks of professionals on the ground that the State Department does not have- and can find useful.

Please consider contributing to them- it is a Non Profit that like most in this economy is short staffed and needs funding to do its mission as well as it would like to.
Checks can be mailed to 9691 Main Street, Suite D, Fairfax, VA 22031-3754.

If you know of any case that deserves their attention or are interested in starting a chapter in your locality or country please call Brent McBurney at (US) 703-894-1084.

    Why Now

    HHS, Contraception and the Church

Everyone loves or should babies and want as many as they can have or afford (not the same thing).
Everyone should want to hold them, kiss them, sing lullabies to them, rock them to sleep, teach them, pay for their college and clothes. Everyone doesn't.
Catholic Priests for example don't.  That's why they sign on to an employment regime where they can't have any of their own.  In fact the catholic world bizarrely demonizes any priest who has a natural child as if that were a greater sin than fondling an altar boy. They take care possibly in other ways of other people's kids. So do a lot of other people- aunts and uncles and godparents and friends.

There are many states now which already have for years without issue mandated FDA approved contraceptive coverage of religious institutions (not churches/houses of worship) According to a
NATION CONFERENCE OF STATE LEGISLATURES REPORT  in August 2011, at least 26 states by law require insurers that cover prescription drugs to also provide coverage for any Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptive, including: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.  click here.

No one has sued these states to my knowledge.

There is now a moral objection on the part of a few Archdioceses and their corporate non profit schools
to doing so on conscience grounds (as if corporations had actual 'consciences' as opposed to the people on their boards, etc. who are not personally named anywhere in the suits).

However, they routinely insure against other things that are clearly morally objectionable- like the child abuse, child rape, molestation issues/charges. That comes out of self-insurance reserves for self-insured Dioceses. These are intentional crimes and torts and so apparently the 'self-insured reserves' don't have 'intentional conduct' exclusions. That is an admission that the Archdiocese does not view insurance as a religious liberty issue or they wouldn't be allowed to cover voluntarily morally objectionable behaviors.

What is so offensive about this legal assault - and the misplaced moral indignation about it- is that
it infringes on the freedom of religion of people who wish to use contraception (85% of their own flock) to avoid abortion which is viewed by those people as a greater harm and evil.   Those people use it on moral grounds. They may be married and know that having more kids would jeopardize keeping a roof over the ones that they have for example. These sorts of family planning issues totally evade priestly hierarchy because they don't family plan like this. They have no family budget. They have no nuclear family they are responsible singularly for.  If they do they get kicked out, demonized and scandalized like it is a greater sin than raping a child. Too weird for words.

Even the Pope has conceded that contraception can be used in a morally justified way as a lesser evil to prevent disease and clearly latex condoms do. Is the Cardinal trying to be more Pope than the Pope?
    That will really impress him.

This stuff appears to the lay person as more than ridiculous- but a total waste of resources as the mounting legal bills threaten to be more than the increased health costs very soon. No one is mandating anyone avail of the insurance, just that the insurance companies make it accessible. No one is infringing on the teaching capacity of the Archdiocese to preach against the use of contraception or the wise better path in their view.

When you talk about Religious Liberty- it is not the same as Institutional budgeting or insurance.
Just because social security exists for disabled people doesn't mean people are going to intentionally break their legs to get it. Nor does the fact that insurance covers the possible eventuality of surgery after
a car crash mean that people will start playing bumper cars on 1-95. The fact that surgery after car crashes may be covered does not mean that there cannot also be a law mandating seat belts to avoid it.

Were I watching the money at the Vatican I would be ticked off at the colossal waste of resources on this fight. Likely to lose.

    More on Saint Anthony

Did you know he traveled and preached throughout France ?

He is famous for leaving his tongue in the cathedral in Padua where he did most of his teaching. (not on purpose- they kept it when he died as it was incorrupt due to his eloquence and brilliance in teaching)- While he is called St. Anthony of Padua he actually is from Lisbon originally and made his way to Italy. He however spent a great deal of time in various places in France preaching. HERE, preached St.Anthony in France

He was considered such a great preacher that St. Francis of Assisi insisted that he preach often for the order.

Here it says he got some of his training in Montpellier.
It pins him living also in Toulouse, Limogues and other areas less familiar from a tourist perspective.
He is often seen holding in images/statues a child because he had a vision of Jesus as a baby.
While he was considered brilliant, he could have pursued being a more aristocratic sort of intellectual cleric of high position, he saw (so goes the story) several Franciscans on their way back from the Holy Land and desired to preach there, even unto martyrdom. God had other plans and other work to do but it was his desire to pursue that particularly Franciscan charism of peace that led him to the order. To this day the Franciscan order tends the Christian Holy Sites in Israel. In Washington, DC the church of the Holy Sepulchre is replicated in all dimensions in the church at the Franciscan Monastery.

How can a true preacher of Jesus, the Prince of Peace be anything other than an advocate for Peace in the Holy Land?

    Not Kidding

These "conspiracy theories" were actually true.
    -well, some of them.
...If you lived at the time of these events and someone told  you of these 'conspiracy theories' chances are you would tell the person they were delusional or crazy- .....just like people do to the 911 truthers now.

    Miracles

Are Real and Saint Anthony Delivers --Happy Feast Day--

One of those rare "miracle-workers" Saints, Anthony, a Doctor of the church, great Theologian who once put his fellow franciscan friars to work to pay off the debt of a woman whose husband was in debtors prison to avoid her having to sell herself into prostitution to feed her children. He also is patron saint of lobbyists because he lobbied the biggest loan shark in town to not extortionately lend at userous interest rates and lobbied for the outlawing of debtors prisons altogether in the small italian town where he operated. He is one of the greatest spirits of the Christian age. He is famous for finding things- which belief emanates from the fact that a cross Saint Francis gave him that he hung around his neck that was lost at sea when he was shipwrecked mysteriously was handed back to him one sunny day by a kid who found it on the beach (so the movie goes:-) People pray to him to locate keys, but he also finds lost careers, lost loves, and lost hope and finds what you need found- a spouse, a house or anything missing. For more on his miracle working click

    http://catholicism.about.com/b/2012/06/13/saint-anthony-the-wonder-worker.htm

If you have not yet stopped in to see the Saint Anthony Chapel surrounded by beautiful mosaics of the town of Assist and Saint Francis in Saint Matthews Cathedral in Washington, DC you should. Especially if you need a miracle.

    Moral High on What Ground?

You Sometimes Have to Wonder What the people taking the so called moral high ground are smoking. Take for instance this insistence that children of gay households are worse off than heterosexual households therefore gay marriage is bad. Compared to what? Group orphanages? Homeless heterosexuals with street kids living from shelter to shelter? Homes where parents are drug addicts or alcoholics fighting insanely all the time? Homes emotionally destroyed by adultery? Broken homes of divorced heterosexuals bouncing from mom's house to dad's house with step-parents who hate them? Homes where bickering replaces warmth of heterosexual nasty people? Homes of heterosexuals where no spouse works so they live off government cheese and diet coke and don't know the meaning of the word 'vacation'? Kids should be aborted instead of in homes run by homosexuals? Seriously, who is the control group? Two loving stable responsible people who love their chidden and provide for them can provide a home for a child no matter their gender. Gay people who love children provide a better home than heterosexuals who love themselves more than their children. You think heterosexuals can't be crazy or unstable or provide chaos? The absurdity of the argument is just one more instance of republican morality trying to be better than you and me because they have some divine insight dictated by Republican party platform politics. They live in some unreal idealized world that does not exist. Do they know that 'single sex' priests living with other priests have adopted children who otherwise would be orphaned? Its hard not to call these sorts of moralizing republicans idiots. It's really hard.

    And Why 911?

We still have not fully investigated Cheney's deferred Halliburton stock options -Halliburton should be fully audited by the IRS, CIA and DOD as should Cheney.  A grand Jury should be looking at why he had all the F16s stand down from the Pentagon the morning of 911. I believe he rigged a war on the false flag pretext of 911 and has been paid a fortune for it. Obscene. Evil.

CHENEY- possibly the most evil man in American History roaming at large who orchestrated mass murder for personal profit and torturing people routinely. Why is he a Free Man?

Is this what JFK discovered and stopped?

Then got shot?  George Bush Senior was in the CIA during this time- look what they concocted re: CUBA when JFK was in the White House

    Never Get in a Car

    If You Are the President

Unless you KNOW who the driver is (and hopefully he is a relative or a long time friend- don't let strangers drive you anywhere.)

One theory is that the driver of Kennedy's car was CIA and shot him from the front- I hear five not three shots here.  Watch the whole thing- FIVE SHOTS (Warren Commission joke of a cover up)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCVaYxOvcMs&feature=g-vrec

If you don't know who the driver is- don't ride. Doesn't matter if you are late. Make someone you know drive. Never let anyone in a car with you if you don't know them. Especially the driver.  (could also have been a grassy knoll corsican gunman, L.H.Oswald crazy patsy and the driver- you don't think they would have left chance to one crazy gun in a book depository do  you?)

    Shut the EF Up!

    First Amendment Fun

Can you fine people for public swearing? They are starting to in New England. Ever have to sit on a long bus ride and a loud obnoxious person is flinging loud obnoxious obscenities into their cell phone for a long long time?  You think it will never end.  You wonder if the person just escaped an insane asylum. You secretly pray for someone to clobber the person over the head. The bus driver never does anything for fear of starting an altercation -the person may be intoxicated or three minutes from barfing all over his bus. I can't stand it-it is a breach of the 'peace'- some of the five hundred pounder skunk ho filthy mouths on buses should be just kicked off the bus until they can get a civil tongue or shut the EF up. If this has not happened to you yet consider yourself blessed.

A town in New Hampshire is giving the police power to fine people for public swearing. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/12/public-swearing-middleborough-fine_n_1587270.html?ref=topbar

Good for them!  Everyone should do it. It is a public nuisance. There are noise ordinances which do not violate First Amendment rights. This shouldn't either. Lets see if anyone actually challenges it as unconstitutional.  (apparently the ACLU thinks it already is declared unconstitutional)- I would argue it  is prone to incite violence because someone will want to clobber the offending culprits to make them Shut the EF Up!

    Republican Absurdism

    Should be a new Philosophy.

Have you heard that "Obama is a Muslim?" -- makes sense, no one has seen his baptismal certificate and everyone would claim it falsified if they did.
He went to a Muslim school in Indonesia, he can recite the Koran in perfect Arabic (bloody good for him! I have a hard time reciting the Our Father in perfect French--forget the French Nicene Creed, I need an on line translator for that one still)- where is Nicea anyway?

If Obama were a hard core Muslim- he would Pardon everyone in Guantanamo, give them releases and waivers and reparations, buy an island for them to live happily on and make them CIA counter-espionage agents. They wouldn't be stuck in Guantanamo forever without trials. He wouldn't need to wait on the Supreme Court to tell him whether they get trials at all or military trials. He could release them on executive order, interview them all to see what they really were up to (driving a taxi to pick up their wife when picked up by American military accusing them of being terrorists goes one movie plot) and just release them all.   If he were a true Muslim brother that is what he would do. Instead he waits on the ridiculously conservative Supreme Court to tell him that these people get no trials or real presentation of anything like what we consider dispositive inculpatory evidence requiring them to be locked away forever or until they commit suicide.

The conservative people who call him a Muslim- I want to say
ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY?  or just terminally stupid?

if he is a Muslim counteragent he is very bad one.

And Now For More Laugh out Loud Absurdity from the Highest Court in the Land

If It weren't So Tragic. the Supreme Court, under the pathetic cointelpro myth that everyone rotting in Guantanamo is a Muslim Terrorist sympathizer with Al Quaeda (which is pretty much the making of our arming the Muhajadin in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets) ruled again recently against Habaes relief in Guantanamo. This largely Catholic -Jewish court it seems are ready to just lock up anyone Muslim on the suspicion that they MIGHT be POSSIBLY terrorists because Bush said so. Really? You just hate all muslims or can't tell the difference between uncle Joe whose nephews tattled on him for the 25k and his land while he was locked far away in Cuba and someone ready to strap a bomb to their waist? Seriously. Unbelievable. They need real trials. ALL OF THEM. 25k bounties for these guys means they are set up in Poppy heroin farming for the rest of their lives. They would turn in their grandmother. Do you read anything other than the Wall Street Journal you Supremes? No, let me correct myself. The EXCLUSIVELY Catholic-Jewish Supreme Court keeps all suspected Muslim terrorist locked away at Guantanamo without a trial denying Habaes relief. How would you like it we do it to all Catholics now? No Trial. We just suspect you are all pedophiles. Because Obama says so.  There is plenty of evidence in the popular psyche that all catholics must be pedofiles- child raping molesting monsters who deserve to be sent to a far away island to spend the rest of their lives chained to a wall urinating on themselves.
Because Obama says so.  No trials. just live like dogs until you commit suicide.
This is Constitutional suicide. You have to give those people all trials. real trials. with real evidence required- not the jerky weird fabricated nonsense that says- we think you must be a militant therefore we get to call you an 'enemy combatant " and lock you away for the rest of your lives without a trial or requirement that anyone prove anything or any shred of a scintilla of credible evidence of anything other than the fact that CIA director Bush Senior financed the Muhajadin to fight the Soviets. Absolutely sickening to hide behind- its offshore in Cuba so we get to criminally violate constitutional law and term anyone we want without any evidentiary hearing whatsoever an 'enemy'. It's off shore -does Romney get to criminally violate tax evasion laws? OFF SHORE?

How much disgust must I reign in to be compliant with all those professional courtesy bar rules. The disgustometer is banging off the calibrator.

This is NAZI germany all over again. This is EXACTLY what they did to Jews when they put them in concentration camps on suspicions of undermining the Nazi regime's plans- minus the gas (is that far off)

    On the Bright Side

In Southern California- where it doesn't rain  (much)

The Catholic Church has bought the Crystal Cathedral and renamed it Christ Cathedral.

The Catholic church with its growing hispanic base is alive and well in Southern California thanks to
    Mexico.
The iconic glass cathedral now will host real masses.  It will likely be a place of fun pilgrimages-
and they should endeavor to do a lot of ecumenical outreach there because it was built by reformer protestants in a midwestern tradition inspired by people like Norman Vincent Peale.
Just another great excuse to visit sunny California.

    Corporations

are Legal Juridical "People" sometimes- a weird legal fiction.

But do they get 'conscience rights?" There are corporate and Non Profit educational Plaintiffs suing for their 'conscience rights' under the First Amendment. Who do they go to for Confession? Are conscience rights something institutions have or should there have been actual people as plaintiffs in the HHS suits? Like the people responsible for signing off on the budgets maybe?  Are they going to get hit with sanctions for filing actions for First Amendment rights of Corporations on Freedom of Religion grounds? Are these personal individual rights or corporate rights or non profit rights as such?

Corporations and Non Profit statutes did not exist under state incorporation statutes and current corporate law at the time the Constitution was written so their exact configurations could not have been what was meant by the First Amendment as their existence depends and relies on their State incorporation statutes.

Did someone screw up by not naming individual plaintiffs? Or will this legal fiction get to slide as far as the fiction of corporate personhood. Law Review article writers ready your pens. Its going to be a long ride.

    AOL

    AMERICA ON LANGLEY

It became long evident to me during the Iraq fiasco that AOL was holding, diverting and reading my AOL e-mail. Everyone said I was paranoid then- perhaps but we well know now that they were.  AOL, which has been aptly dubbed America On Langley has a cozy relationship one surmises intelligently with the CIA who has long been known to plant stories in the news. What are they up to now?
We have it seems, in the wake of the homeland security multibillion dollar award, now something that everyone is going to have to believe or be so at risk at home we just have to quarantine hundreds of thousands of people. You have seen lately and are seeing more and more stories (like one or more a day) about the Flesh-Eating Bacteria invasions and the Zombie Invasions. There was that Naked Face Eating guy, the poor student from Africa, now a wigged out wig shopper biting off flesh of the shopkeeper. There will be more. It will get more and more bizarre. I am wondering what they injected into these people to make them lose their minds.

Cut it Out. It's not nice. Stop poisoning these people or subjecting them to weird bacterial infections.
Go play Dominos or something. Find a Hobby. Go Fishing. Just Stop It. It's not real government work. Get a real job.

If you think about it - its interesting that an e-mail service also gives you the news. Its like -imagine- you can't go to your mailbox at the end of your driveway without having the postman give you the latest neighborhood gossip the way he wants you to understand it.  Imagine your postal carrier standing at your mailbox to greet you in the morning- You know, Mrs. McGillicudy down the street- well she had some flesh eating bacteria this morning and has to get all her toes amputated. You don't say- do go on. And there's a flesh eating bacteria scare now in the neighborhood because I just scared you. Here's your mail. Have a good day.

Which Part Didn't You Understand the First Time??

Habaes Scores One-at least in Principle

Against what looked to Judge Forrest (a SDNY Federal Judge) as too constitutionally infirm to stand on its two feet-or even hopscotch on one. The NDAA which has up in arms the civil libertarian community (and anyone who can read ) has been again determined to be too suspect to pass the constitutional smell test.  You have to give her credit- she is a 2011 Obama appointee and she handed the Administration their hat twice.
You can't do that- so vaguely define what someone does in conduction with 'support' or collaboration that any and every journalist who doesn't like blind drone bombings could get routed up with whomever you hire by those billions you just got for 'Homeland Security' to throw in FEMA camps. Congress may be too dumb to catch it at first glance but thank God we have some smart Federal Judges.

A write up of the opinion is:

    Sex, Lies and Budgets

Religion is all over the press these days. Private worship is all over the news-   we can't even blame Santorum because it was long prior in the making- Republicans like to own God  (sometimes pretty much to themselves) , and we had one President who manipulated the well meaning anti-abortionists to turning a blind eye to the evils of unjust war.  Several Republican candidates made the ostensible 'war on religion' or 'war on catholicism' hallmarks of their petering campaigns. Now we have massive church organizations calling budgetary decisions moral ones and claiming rights of conscience over back door insurance finance regulations pertaining to things they hold their noses at. A recent editorial asks the question- are conscience rights under the First Amendment individual or institutional? Good  question.  Lets ask the Federal Judiciary before we do the research.
One would think that the contraception disinformation campaign took a page from the CIA disinfo desk. Who doesn't think condoms stop diseases ?
The CIC (www.CICdc.org) is a great place to get a taste of the rightest of winged  doctrine when you can take it- from the smartest proponents thereof that exist.  There is a guy giving a book talk on "BAD RELIGION"- google it- check their webpage. I can only imagine what makes him the arbiter of what is good and bad religion in a world where Franciscan Friars take the side of 'renegade' so called radical feminist nuns being berated by the Vatican over their belief in universal health care.  Today's news also brought the tumble from grace of millionaire prosperity gospel hawker  Creflo Dollar (yes, its his real name) because whacking his 15 year old landed him in a domestic violence charge. (We fall down, but we get up.)  What are we going to do with all these humans someone must be thinking.
Who is the Saint you pray to when the leadership gets unhinged? Maybe Saint Catherine of Siena-
A good thing is that there are AA meetings in churches- because sometimes their policies and diatribes could drive one to drink.
And how many Billion did Congress just award to "Homeland Security?"  For what? or For Whom should I ask. We need that many billions to protect us from the world trying to bury us? What did we possibly do to inspire that?
Sing a new song to the Lord- that should keep your mind off it.

    Truth and Pretext

    Power Games of Ego Trippers

          Parading as Piety.
Lets take the case of Jean D'Arc, or Joan of Arc to you.
This was a very devout young woman, rather highly patriotic it would seem, who thought that she heard the voice of angels (Michael at least) direct her how the battles could be won to install on the throne the Dauphin against the guy the British wanted and were sponsoring as Britain was on the march conquering much of normandy, too close to Paris for comfort and large other portions of France.
The Dominicans- the elite theologian purists of the day- were on the side of and paid handsomely by the British faction.
They were corrupted by the power, influence and placing their bets on whom they thought would be in power and so were persecuting -literally torturing to death- the person whom they felt most threatened by- a peasant girl who got her orders directly from Heaven.

Dominicans can't stand that because they are supposed to be the prime moral compass of all catholicism- leading inquisitions across southern france.
So how do they nail her? She is actually installing the Dauphin, the right heir to the French Royal throne-who was even  Catholic- they catch her on things like-she is wearing men's clothes (hard to win battles in petticoats), and she refuses to renounce her call or the authenticity of her voices.  She is deemed a heretic. Dominicans who had such civil power then were allowed to commit capital punishment on heretics.
They got it wrong as a retrial some years later proved. But they killed her off anyway. Because they were evil.
Yes, people in clerical garb can be and have been evil. Wrong and Evil.  It should shock nobody that evil parades as piety in the church nor that clergy hedge bets on power grabs.
It never prevails forever- because Christ is in ultimate control of his church and his victory will ultimately always prevail. But some of the people under cloak of his authority misuse his name and play their corrupt self-serving game- at the expense of truth.
Because even monks and priests are people. They are not God, there is but one God. It's the First Commandment as any good Monk or Priest should tell  you.

    Birth Control and Celibacy

"If you are not a hypocrite your standards are not high enough-aim higher" said one comic journalist.
Because it seems most days you can point to just about anyone in authority and see where their touted aspirations and self-labeling doesn't match the facts of their acts. Obama was the antiwar guy- a NOBEL Peace Prize winner even-- but we are still in Afghanistan and are still finding reasons to be there for another two years at least. (we still have suspended civil liberties and the patriot act and surveillance is still with us.)

The catholic church is for the best children's education but has spent three billion dollars (count the zeros $3,000,000,000.) on settlements to pay off people who screwed over children. Oh yeah-and they hate birth control and abortions, while birth control prevents abortions. Clearly. Jesus also was all about healing everyone he met, and some birth control forms prevent disease. Clearly. They are all about as  many kids as you can have, except for the most spiritual of them who aren't allowed any.  Half the babies born in the US now to women under age 30 are not in marriage so clearly people are having sex- at least half the country half the time outside marriage.
They are about love, except when they want to punish into doctrinal conformity in obnoxiously rude ways.
The Bible says and they preach pray for those in authority over you because God put them there for your benefit- and so the church just sues them all. Including the treasury department head who did nothing regarding the offending policy possibly- but he must have the bucks. We lost three bil. on child rape and harassment lawsuits so lets try to get some back from the US Treasury! (stand in line said the Chinese) So lets sue him poor tiny tim-the poor guy has already said he's on his way out and needs this like a hole in the head, like he had anything to do with it.

So what can you say looking at this lot of self-protecting people who would rather self-insure against child rape than help a girl out get contraception pills so she doesn't have to get an abortion because they don' t pay a salary that would support a single gal with a kid.  Oh yeah- and she and anyone else pregnant would be fired because
of the 'religious exemption' -someone would give them a bible study to teach before firing to cover their tail and call them ministerial and they wouldn't get a reference for another job from being fired for 'misconduct.' Sexual misconduct. They would put that on their records for anyone who called. She would be mortified to explain why she left the prestigious catholic institution-  perhaps one of only two or three hospitals in town. Everyone would talk. These people need a lesson.

    Aim Higher.
          You are ridiculously embarrassing.

    Health and the Common Condom

Why the Church isn't going to like the Court's take on their HHS indignation:

..... The Catholic church has been misled before when it comes to Constitutional precedent and health and well being of people it associates with. Condoms clearly DO prevent disease. Not only AIDS but
they prevent some venereal disease transmission also- The Congress and the President clearly have not only the right but the obligation to regulate in ways that protect health.
Here is a recent story regarding a woman being awarded by a jury an astronomical sum because she had sex with someone who took OFF a condom during sex who gave her Herpes. HERE . See Center for Disease Control statement on why condoms done the right way curb spread of certain diseases. HERE http://www.cdc.gov/condomeffectiveness/latex.htm

The Church-any church- has every right to teach people or spiritually guide people that having sex outside marriage  (where blood tests might be a state requirement for a marriage license) is wrong and should not happen. The Congress and the President have every constitutional right to tell people that if they do, they need to use a condom. Few people who have sex outside marriage ask first for a medical check up of their partner and there have been many cases of transmitting diseases through sex.

Sometimes Constitutional statements are not moral ones. The constitutional right to marriage equality under equal protection grounds of the constitution is not necessarily a moral statement- but a constitutional one. There is a difference. All things permitted are not necessarily wise or helpful or moral in the eyes of any church.   That is exactly the point of a free society- people make their own moral determinations.

I think it is morally wrong to shoot Bambi for sport. But its legal. Some people even eat Bambi after shooting her. I find that heart wrenching. Some people eat rabbits or Lapin as they say in French for lunch. I had a pet bunny named snowflake. Its not illegal to eat Lapin.

The church finds it destructive and grossly immoral to have sex outside marriage. Some people who did and are not married or married later after sex now with lots of kids strongly disagree.  Brangelina are not married. They are icons to some- Other single women are raising children as single parents- not married.
Clearly we give people choices in a free society and some others find immoral.  Some people had to kiss a  lot of frogs before finding Prince Charming.

The greatness of our country lies in our ability to create civil space for opinions different than ours. We are not a totalitarian society where one organizations moral beliefs dictate to the rest of the country what should be the moral norm- those societies allowed things like corrupt Dominican inquisitions to burn at the stake people deemed heretics who disagreed with the political whims of the day. The day the great American experament goes down that road is the day the great American experiment is over.

    Redemption

    and RESURRECTION

One who believes in Christ has to believe that there is a hope, a joy and a resurrection to a life that far surpasses the human weakness, misery, failures and pain here on earth. To believe otherwise is to 'sin against hope.'

Some people's circumstances tempt them harder than others to 'sin against hope' which is another word for 'despair of life.'  It is important to not tempt people in that regard.

Denis Sobin is a person trying his hardest to teach people a firm belief in Resurrection- and he is doing it through the ARTS.

In my 25 year legal career there are few more wildly interesting people that I have represented than Denis Sobin, Director of the Safe Streets Arts Foundation. click here for a video of the Safe Streets Art Kennedy Center production (I made a second long cameo introduction in a red dress)- The guitar accompaniment is Mr. Sobin playing in the background.  He taught himself guitar in prison and plays classical, contemporary and jazz. He also now teaches a class of  geriatric guitar players in a 'guitar orchestra' - lessons begin at the rec room of his Senior Center living place near the Kennedy Center.

He would be considered by the higher browed crowd as a scum of the earth sort of character who has been lampooned by the Washington City Paper repeatedly, called a notorious Pimp like demon and every foul name on the planet. He did a long time for what he considers wrongful convictions pertaining to taking artsy sort of nude photos/film of his own kids in a nudist colony. His son now can't stand him- a cross he bears with great sadness.  He champions things I don't at all condone sometimes- like what the French have in the form of legalized prostitution. I don't however judge him or concern myself with any of that- I concern myself with all the souls he tried to and has successfully redeemed from lives that landed them at one time or another in prison, either wrongfully convicted or not, either addicted to drugs or deviantly selling them, really bad actors or guys pretending too hard to be really bad actors. Souls that have great creative capacity- souls that love.

Denis Sobin runs a Foundation now in Washington, DC that gets national arts grants and local Washington DC grants, hosts an annual Kennedy Center event in which a Police Jazz Band is featured and play writes whose work in prison inspired them, including an award winning actor from Baltimore's 'The Wire" show. He has graced many church basement homeless ministries with Christmas guitar music. He has loaned a buck or two to people who fresh out needed a suit. This is a guy who was humbled so low, he decided at one point to make his life count for good- and it has had remarkable impact.  He has run for DC Mayor twice in his life- in sort of civil liberties protest runs. He championed early on the cause of civil liberty violations of routine incarceration of gay men caught in gay bars in earlier years. He has been married several times and his current paramour is a gracefully aged Brazilian beauty who visited him dutifully while in prison and has stayed by his side ever since.  She appears with him on one of the videos on the website.

The art work done by prisoners is astoundingly good in some cases. Amazing talent and time to cultivate it. One of the videos on the site broadcast by Voice of America shows how one inmate made a brush out of his own cut hair wrapped with dental floss and stuck in a hollowed pen.  Some of the work is featured at the gallery in the Watergate (Watergate gallery), some at the DC Museum of Crime and Punishment started by that guy who runs the TV program America's Most Wanted- a friend of his.

Denis is one of those folks some people in his life will be shocked to find in heaven. I won't be-
You will be lucky if you ever get to meet him. And you will never look at people in prison the same way again.  Click HERE to purchase from the on line gallery.

But when were you......in prison.....asked the disciples. In as much as you do to the least of these my brothers, you do it to me, said Jesus.

KERMESSE- A Fine French Fair For All

In a bucolic corner of Washington, DC that hardly feels like a city there is a pristine white cross in the corner of a property with an edwardian looking white home on it. I like to call it the Other White House.
This is the only indication that inside exists a chapel, and a peaceful tabernacle, where twice a week the Eucharist is displayed and venerated in prayerful silence before a Mass. It is right behind the Fox studios and I bet you didn't even realize a catholic Mass existed there twice a week. It is the Parish House of Saint Louis de France, the french catholic community in Washington, DC.   click Here for the Parish site.

The elegant erudite graduate of the Sorbonne before  Seminary French Priest resides there. Every year, his ministry to the entire community, which is in DC and Bethesda, is supported by an annual Kermesse- or Fair- Bazaar, a Parisian style flea market, kids games, fun french food sales (crepes, croque monsieur, boeuf borgignone, brie sandwich, etc...), a silent auction, and book sales of french literature.  Not to mention great french wine of course.

I walked past some student housing in Georgetown and saw piled on the street their giveaways as they move out of group houses for the semester. What a shame, I thought- these things would sell at the Kermesse for a good cause. If you are moving, or want to do Spring cleaning and have give aways, please drop them off at the Parish house in Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase.  And come to the Fair-Bazaar September 30, 2012- its one of the best kept secrets in DC.

    Smart Soft Power

Yesterday at the Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, in a Conference in conjunction with the Transatlantic Alliance Forum, the French Embassy and L'Alliance Francaise, headliner Assistant Secretary of State Brimmer gave an impressive run down of the Smart ways we are engaging in Foreign Policy with the use of diplomatic Smart Power.  She took us on a verbal tour through Somalia, Libya and Syria in her remarks noting how effectively we have served American interests there. Yes, it is much softer, and much smarter than the previous Administration. In her petite frame this Oxford educated DC native packs a powerful punch- in a soft way you might say.  She is also very female, which is a great pride in such a high office for our country as we attempt to model what a free society looks like to more female repressive regimes around the world. It is incredibly important in the world to have such figures, a woman of color who one might mistake for an Ethiopian or Haitian for her delicate profile as a face of one of the most powerful figures in American government speaking to other cultures where women's cultural identities are limited- countries where women in Africa experience for example female genital mutilation, or forced marriages, or honor killings or literal stoning to death for adultery. This is a figure that should be more on display- on TV or in webcasts on the State Department website.

There were a lot of interesting speakers on the panels.

The French attaché for education, an academic at the Embassy Emilienne Baneth-Nouailhetas noted that language is really significant in developing mutual understanding so french language training is a cornerstone of good diplomacy from a french perspective--a very fitting theme given the conference was cosponsored by L'Alliance Francais, the international language institute that has a wide variety of programs including now in DC public schools. She noted that the Chateaubriand scholarships allow American scholars to study and live in France for six or more months which encourages their language development. Its hard to live in a country that long without picking up some french she noted. It makes it difficult to also reduce the french  into 'cheese -eating whatevers' she argued. (The Republican idiot phrase was 'cheese-eating surrender monkeys' from the same vibe that renamed by Congressional edict 'french fries'- freedom fries. ) There are ways of looking at things and nuance is suggested by language differentials. There are levels obviously of linguistic prowess- and the better one becomes at it, the better neighbor one can become in empathy at viewing the world together from similar perspectives.

One noted the difficulty in operating globally where there is a trust deficit in government. This, I fear the Obama State Department inherited from the Bush Administration. How do you follow a trumped up rigged war on phony photoshopped UN presentations masquerading as a humanitarian response to a rogue ruler who attacks his own people, when Bush attacked his own people in 9-11. Half of New York believes it is an 'inside job' a third at least and counting of the Democratic Party in the US does (and those figures are likely low given that people are made out to be loons if they have half a brain and put the pieces together--just google 911 truth and see what you get.)  It is irrational to believe from what we now know that a bunch of independent jihadist Saudi hijackers hit those targets and brought down three buildings in New York unaided when explosives were widely heard and with all the scientific evidence of how thermite works and its dust clouds ensue. It is astounding any European politician still believes it.  We have to get beyond it and admit we had a disastrous rogue government here- and stop playing  footsie with the Bush legacy which is nothing short of scandalous.  I have always argued you should have your head examined if you believe the US Pentagon, the most secure military installation in the World, command central for global wars, would be so unprotected a massive object the size of a missile could penetrate both ends of it without someone who knows missiles having control of it.

One British woman noted that really, the civil society orgs function independent of the lack of trust many people have in government in a tip of the hat to the 'yes, we know it was garbage but what do you expect us to do now?' meme. Scientific diplomacy was touted as one of the reasons that trust can evolve as science is a search for truth on another level and international cooperation in scientific advancements and endeavors can improve international mutual understanding.  Student exchanges are a great 'soft power' diplomatic tool.  This is undermined obviously by things like Chinese intellectual property piracy, which is a huge problem.

A USAID worker with eleven years engaging in 'soft power' around the world to avoid conflicts explained that sometimes in government there are cross agendas working at cross purposes. She detailed USAIDs efforts under Bush to stop the genocide in Darfur which she claimed were stopped deliberately by Bush's other so called 'war on terror' objectives in which we needed the genocidal government to cooperate with us in the Sudan to fight 'terror.'
A former Bush appointee NATO individual whose name I wish to forget gave probably the best Obama re-election rationale without meaning to in noting that he believes 'hard power' should in effect be harder- meaning more massive killing machinery to scare everyone that we are the biggest baddest bullies on the block and you all better do what we want or consider yourself dead. I think the world has had enough of that sort of non-proliferation rationale, don't you?

If 911 was rigged and an 'inside job' false flag attack, then we can't be sure it won't happen again-as it has through history. Now you can google on Youtube warnings about anticipated disasters to strike the London Olympics. From what I know and don't want to know- I would take those warnings seriously.

Sometimes in these conferences, especially when intellectualish- hawkish people talk about 'hard power' its easy to lose sight of the fact that when you talk about using it you are talking about killing people- large numbers of people, and inevitable collateral damage casualties of women and children not just soldiers in government's power battles. Real people get killed in wars. Hence, it shouldn't be used as a tool of commerce- in other words industry leaders who are unsuccessful in negotiating oil deals in the caspian who lose out to other countries should not get to retaliate by carpet bombing the country into submission or oblivion by rigging public opinion to wage wars. That is beyond scandalous- its disgusting.
It is hard to not lose faith in one's government when it functioned like this. The Obama Administration is working hard to restore trust in the government, but it has had a hard climb.  At least the trajectory is going in the right direction.

    Federalism

When you Like the Federal approach. There is confusion regarding whether religious orgs get a huge exemption for all things ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)- In it there is a religious exemption that covers any institution controlled by a religion, not just a house of worship- a broader exemption that the religious folks are arguing for in the HHS regs. But this does not totally exempt religious orgs from all things ADA because the ADA has several parts and the exemption does not apply to all of them. As an EMPLOYER the religious org still has to comply with the ADA requirements (for accessibility, ramps, etc.) for its employees so as to not be discriminating on the basis of disability against any employee-- who might need a ramp to get to work because they are in a wheel chair for example. click for exemption profile under ADAhttp://www.ada-il.org/questions/q_religious_orgs.php  See also, here, DOJ guide-http://www.ada.gov/cguide.htm
The Supreme Court recently made another exemption pertaining to those who have some ministerial function or capacity under Establishment clause grounds leaving open and untouched the right of non ministerial employees under the ADA (who those are is anyone's guess but reason would have it perhaps this means maintenance personnel, secretaries, IT people, and the like). The guidance on what exactly is ministerial creates drama in the blogosphere as the opinion is not clear on the point- nevertheless there is a category of persons not ministerial in religious run institutions who still have protection under the ADA.

So the federal government is allowed to by statute dictate and order religious orgs to do things it may find
unnecessary or even objectionable or too costly.  States also have regulations that pertain to ADA accommodations issues and they all do not provide the same religious exemptions so it is wise to check state laws in the area in which one operates.
Its the price everyone pays for operating in the country.  There is no blank check for being a schmuck because you run a religious school. Thus, if the Supreme Court allows some statutes to still impinge on the total autonomy of a religious org. how much more legitimate will it be deemed constitutionally permitted to do it when it is tied to a health and welfare regulation? Providing condoms stops the spread of AIDS. A mediation point might be - but does all contraception- so it is all a legit exercise of health and welfare powers, etc.
These anti-HHS lawsuits if they go all the way to the S.Ct. may not meet with the success hoped for. Mediation is the best avenue to resolve this if any part survives the Individual mandate fight currently under review on Commerce Clause grounds.

    CHANGE. CHANGE CHANGE NOW

    Get F'ing REAL Benoit

Church History 101 For Those Born Yesterday

    Lateran Councils

The first of four Lateran Councils was held in 1123. They are so named after Saint John Lateran, the church in Rome which was prior to the Vatican being built the effective vatican and central seat of the bishops where these councils met. It is a beautiful building which still exists- worth a visit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archbasilica_of_St._John_Lateran

Here are the canons established by the First Lateran Council. CANONS [Laws] HERE
    http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Councils/ecum09.htm

You will note that there is a Canon prohibiting a priest from taking or living with a wife or concubine.
[Canon 7 and 21] There is a law outlawing it - when prior it was common practice. They had to make a law to make it stop-and even then for quite a while it was ignored but the practice just went underground. Some say the practice is still underground. Once in a while a soul with integrity can't live with the secrecy and comes out and says- guess what! I have been married already for a year and you guys couldn't even tell!

The rationale for the Lateran Council is easy to see for anyone with knowledge of European history and the conflicts with the church. The emerging states were confiscating church properties and using inheritance laws to do it.

Jesus never ever ever forbade any priest to marry. In fact in the 613 some Jewish laws there are strict rules regarding who a priest could marry- with different levels of priesthood having different restrictions.
The Cohenic priesthood could only marry virgins. No divorced women, no widows. Virgins. The Levites were not so strict- they held different functions in Jewish life. Marriage was clearly mandatory.
The Christian New Testament also in keeping with the Jewish rules makes it mandatory-[1 Timothy 3, Titus 1] A Bishop MUST be the husband of only one wife. By rule of the New Testament. Not multiple wives in a pagan sense, not polytheism but ONE wife to mirror the fact that there is ONE God. Marital love was to be between Adam and Eve not Adam and Eve, Bridget, Mary, Katherine, and Elaine.

When the church decided for the preservation of the vast enormous churches being built in building their asset base to forbid marriage it was to prevent property confiscation by the state or inheritance laws from divesting church properties. If you look at Saint John Lateran you get a sense of how massive these church structures at the age were. There are huge investments.  If an aristocratic wife married a Bishop, when the Bishop died the Aristocratic wife, or Princess or Marquise or Countessa could inherit the property. That couldn't happen. So they made these laws. Bishops came often from the Aristocratic class because then you could buy yourself a bishopric- it had a lot to do with the money you could generate back to the Pontiff and the wealthier the family the greater your chances of getting a Bishop title.
These rules against marriage for priests have NOTHING to with Jesus nor the spirituality of the priesthood and is an Unholy burden.  They had to delegitimize wives- create a definition of holiness abstracted from marital love to theologically make the unpalatable palatable. They had to convince people it was more holy. Some abusive and discriminatory treatment of women by the church stems from this bastardization of the concept of holiness.

Thirteen Popes were married. Many others had mistresses or 'concubines.'  http://marriage.about.com/od/historyofmarriage/ss/marriedpopes.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sexually_active_popes

Canons are man made laws. They are not statements of scripture. In scripture Paul says basically, hey don't i have a right to travel with a wife like the rest of the apostles? (a right he declines) This is viewed by Paul as a RIGHT. Paul's statement that I wish everyone were like me (and is careful to state its his preference, he isn't channelling God, God isn't talking through him when he states his preference) makes it clear that this isn't what God would want in all cases. What God wants is what is in scripture- the inspired word of God.
Canons-  are man made laws in the institution of the church that serve the particular human objectives of the church in a particular point in history. They are in some cases rationally related to earthly objectives and in some cases in direct contradiction to heavenly wisdom.

A blanket prohibition on a married priesthood is against heavenly wisdom, against scripture, a bastardization of scripture, an excuse for abuse against women and an open door to unspeakable perversions. click-This is directly related to this false theology  It needs to change. Badly.  It's such BS I don't know why they all have not just gone on strike until the rule changes or Benedict cries Ok you win- I will follow Jesus, the Jew from Nazareth.

There is firm evidence of the fact that priests married in Rome. The Basillica that is the Rome seat of the Archbishop of Washington Wuerl which was consecrated in 439 AD has a burial plaque on the floor noting that a Cynthia the wife of a Bishop is buried there. It was the norm- because it is the scriptural rule.

    The Pope Is Just Wrong

    There I Said It.

When Jesus comes back to earth will he find any faith IN HIM as opposed to the created belief structure that finds no support in him in mandatory lifetime celibacy?

The Pope is all over the map defending priestly celibacy and eh em, virginity (yeah right, virginity).
[Gay sex destroys virginity as does whacking off]
He says it is integral to the priesthood. Which is not what JPII said. Because theologically that is an incorrect unfounded statement. The Pope is not God. There is but one God and this is the first commandment.

Priest after priest (former priest after former priest) has come out and said that it harms the church, its body, its members and creates something that so missed the mark of what Jesus wanted his body to function like that it blasphemes the Holy Spirit. Peter the first Pope was married. Every apostle and disciple of age was likely married because Jewish tradition insisted upon it. Look up Rentapriest.com

The church didn't create the 'rule' as such until the 1100s. It is believed to be a way to protect church property from then evolving prima geniture inheritance laws, and is now considered by priests even to be a social contract of employment to protect church assets.  Why did it change after a millennium of doing it the Jewish way? Because as city states emerged from the dark ages in Europe with their legal regimes there became rules regarding property- just as massive church structures were being built. People did not want church properties and massive monastery properties to go to family members. That is why it evolved. It has zero to do with theology and everything to do with the human institutional asset building of the church.

The fact that it is not a theologically founded spiritually necessary part of priesthood is evident from the fact that Anglican priests get to bring in their whole married families and not divorce wives when they become Roman Catholic Priests, and Byzantine, Melkite, Eastern Rite and middle eastern versions of Roman Catholic priestdom are all allowed to be openly married TO WOMEN. Why this Pope thinks only the Western European ones have to maintain the ruse of celibacy is bizarre, not founded on scripture, nothing Jesus taught and created massive perversions that someone is paying billions of dollars for. This is financial tomfoolery. It is irresponsible stewardship- and it is directly related to the ban on priestly marriage in ways so obvious one has to challenge the intellectual honesty of the Pope-who should be smarter than that.

Why on earth would anyone go to any priest on marriage advice or confession related to marriage related issues from someone so psychosocially immature on a sexual level, or repressed homosexually- someone forced into celibacy to serve God. Weird. Totally Weird.

No, Benoit Benedict, You are Wrong. Again. Loudly, Insistently,  Wrong.

It caters to the selfishness of the large money donors who refuse to pay for a priest's wife or family because the priest is supposed to be concerned with them and not have personal concerns. It is a selfishness and a greed. No wonder priests hide wives in foreign places, abscond with funds and play diversionary attention games with the Watergate Widows Club of lonely octogenarians.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.  It is a uniquely Western European rule, that is rooted in fighting Western European property rights laws. It has NOTHING to do with Jesus.

And further, you are going to be held accountable in the hereafter for all the pain this wrongness has caused.
click for: son of a Priest tells all to Katie.
There are believed to be now between 150,000 and 200,000 married roman catholic priests who have been treated abysmally because they found Love - they found God, in a marital union.
    You should be ashamed.

    This is Not Hard

Mediate the "Religious Liberty" issues in Court if the suits are not Withdrawn.

Why people are so annoyed at the Archdiocese:

It is not hard to figure out what the pricing is for around 2,000 employees or so to expand to encompass
additional coverages- nor is it hard to make it available by election to the employees.  It takes about two phone calls.  You are making me laugh.

The Archdiocese of Washington, an easy google search demonstrates, has used 'self-insurance reserves' to pay millions of dollars in child abuse/assault settlements over the past decade. You can pay that out of self-insurance but you can't pay for someone's contraception? Across the country the child abuse settlements run in the BILLIONS. Who paid for that? Insurance?  One involves responsible heterosexuals trying to be involved in heterosexual relations, the other involves paying off for deviant sexual perversions. Can you tell the difference?

You can have no legitimate moral religious objection to sterilization if it is medically necessary to avoid uterine cancer. You also can have no legitimate moral religious objection to contraception to prevent AIDS transmission-which clearly is a legit. public health concern that the government can regulate solutions for. The Pope even says so. You lump it all together in your suit.

It also is none of your business if married employees are trying to have kids or not. Why do you even think it is your business?

The structure of the Catholic church is single men pretending to be celibate who engage in emotional adultery on a level that would make the mormon sister wives look virginal--and they can't even tell why.
The fact that priests cannot openly marry means that they have to secretly wed- the type of person who is cool with that- and usually that is someone who is not able to have kids (e.g. older women/widows) because it's easier to keep secret that way.  It is a game that turns healthy men sometimes into boy toys for lonely widows pretending to be spiritual.  It makes emotional gigolos  out of pastors. And the church does not wish to help healthy heterosexuals have actual families?  What does the church have against heterosexuals? Does it not see how contraception actually does facilitate heterosexual relationships?  Or does it prefer the old days when women told men the days they could not have under the rhythm method so they went off with their mistresses? Because when they say -it isn't about contraception- they are not telling the truth. They are flatly lying -possibly to themselves. They don't believe contraception could help heterosexual relationships- they condemn it morally.

It is really time that the church got real. It is not being persecuted at all.  It is creating people who totally lack sexual integrity under the misguided ruse of false morality.

The sexual relationships of their employees are none of their business.
If they find out most of them of fertile age are already using contraception do they get to fire them all?

This is beyond ridiculous. It is really insulting.
You don't want to pay for something that the rest of the world thinks is good for society.
Other things the government can tell you that you have to pay for now whether you think you need to or not-    ramps for the handicapped under the Americans with Disabilities Act, filters to maintain air quality under EPA rules, heat in the winter, maintain food safety standards in all your cafeterias by buying healthy and/or FDA certified foods, and biowaste disposal containers in hospitals, working toilets to name a few. The list is endless regarding what you have to buy that the government mandates you do for the health, safety and well being of people in this country working with or for you.

These sorts of actions make people really hate the church. It was a dumb bravado move.

Mediate it- before everyone gets so disgusted you won't have any reserves to pay for the rest of your child abuse settlements.

    The Other GERMAN Marx

CARDINAL MARX The German Cardinal from Munich, Cardinal Marx spoke this week at Georgetown's Berkeley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs. click for article on his call for a social market economy. He's a large humble man who said surprising things like "The image of God is in the electors of Obama" as if to scold the religious right who deem anything Democratic on the other side of morality. His message was straight out of the Gospel. We have to make the world better- a simple notion- and one that does what Christ told us to do- take care of the poor all around the word for in that we will find our redemption. Basically, he noted that it is not a satisfactory solution to let Greece go to the dogs and evict them from the European Union noting then other worse catastrophes with other European states will follow. Italy is not in much better shape in their debt profile and Spain and Portugal are on life support. It is easy to see why this man was one of the youngest to be appointed a Cardinal- a very kind, thoughtful German intellectual with a human warmth that made you want to go knock down a few big fat German beers with him at the Tombs. When were you hungry, thirsty, in prison, ill, naked? The disciples asked Jesus- And he replied as we all know- in as much as you do to the least of these my brothers, you do it to me. Jesus expressed total solidarity with the totally down and out. So that is our task. And it is in keeping with that task that Obama is trying to provide medical help via insurance reform to the most poor. Most destitute. That percentage whose medical bills bankrupt a family. Those who don't get cancer treatment because they wait too long until it is too late because they fear the medical bills. I may disagree with the actual individual mandate on Constitutional Commerce Clause grounds, but I don't disagree with the general mandate to provide health care for the poorest. When I went to law school Georgetown cost a quarter what it does now. I knew people who took out student loans then and worked jobs while in law school to pay for their books before everyone had a laptop. You could say there were two classes of students-the ones so wealthy from families so wealthy that their dads bought them condos while in school, they dressed like a party every day, they ate out all the time, vacationed in St. Moritz over Christmas and they drove their Mercedes and parked it in the school building. Then there were the students who lived like graduate students, in group houses on the Hill who counted every penny, took unpaid internships or worked while in law school and lived off the Raaman noodles special at a three pack for a dollar all week wearing the same jeans four days a week. I imagine that the Chancellor of Washington, DC was in the first category because she actually thinks and regularly says that because you can get contraception at $9.00 a month that challenging the freebie deal doesn't affect accessibility. She has clearly never been poor or hungry or had a job where her choices were buy a newspaper that day or get yogurt for lunch. $9.00 a month does work out to with tax about $120 a year, which is more than a week's summer salary for some law student stipend internships. So Sandra Fluke was actually correct in the economy of the situation if that is all it costs and I challenge the premise. If you are making zero income because you are in school, (might even have a student loan over  your head) and your choices are $9.00 a month on contraception and $9.00 on a box of Raisin Bran and milk, chances are you are going to chance it on the contraception and prefer to eat in the morning. $9.00 a month gets you 27 Raaman noodles which is basically a month of dinner. Do you buy contraception or eat for a month? If your income is Zero while in school, you look at $9.00 differently than you do if you are Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Washington making six figures off contributions for what? This is something that I don't think the Chancellor or any of the American Cardinals who have never wanted for a meal actually appreciate. The church pays very well its clerics. Better than a lot of the congregations actually live these days given the unemployment rates and decimation of the middle classes across the country. Obama is trying to live the Gospel the way he understands it. Hence, his appeal.

Catholic clerics in America have to have some bennies to make it palatable for all else they give up- so they often live like yuppies with i-phones, cars, have housing paid for on top of salaries, full medical and dental coverage use laptops and any electronic gadgetry they need, and get invited to dine with families so regularly they don't even really need to buy their own groceries often. They don't have solidarity with the poor even in poor communities in America. Cardinals in America live in luxury. They run multimillion dollar tax free budgets.  They have no empathy whatsoever with young student women involved in relationships where they fear pregnancy. It is why people feel free to dismiss their moral objections so easily. No Cardinal knows the anxiety of a late missed period.  The lawsuits are an insult.
