MICHELLE OBAMA serves up breakfast to homeless folks at MIRIAM'S KITCHEN in the basement of Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.
Proving she looks as good in sleeves, Michelle mingles with the clientelle, who are basically homeless- seriously homeless. They come from shelters and off that patch of by the river under the bridge. You know they appreciated her smile- she made their year (or lifetime! how often does the guy sleeping under the bridge get served breakfast by the First Lady!!.) Hope she makes a habit of it- they come back every day. (It sort of sucks to be hungry.)
Miriam's serves over 200 homeless men and women every single day. They serve only healthy meals that you would possibly get in a diner. Volunteers get to the kitchen between 5:30am and 6:00 am. to prepare fresh food every day. On Wednesday they do a lunch crowd and volunteers from Saint Stephen Martyr, a Catholic church down the street make a pile of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to help (that's ecumenicism for you folks). Miriam's has a big fundraiser every year called "BOWLS OF COMPASSION." More on this later.
