L'Arche du Triumphe!

EQUAL DIGNITY FOR ALL

Today about 200 people were treated to a moving video presentation at the Mayflower Hotel on the L'Arche organization that strives to bring Equal Dignity to the mentally challenged.
L'Arche, founded by a compassionate Frenchman Jean Vanier, is a network of group homes in which "core members" are matched with loving assistants who deeply care for them and integrate them into community and larger L'Arche family life. Here people who in by-gone eras would have been housed and forgotten in neglectful institutions are instead given the opportunities under special attention to develop all their skills and talents to maximize their humanity rather than disrespect it. In the Washington, DC (Adams Morgan) and Arlington, Northern Virginia areas there are three houses with a fourth in the works. In addition to the grants funding that is already committed, the DC, Northern Virginia area needs another half a million standing endowment to fully meet it's vision and operating expenses.
L'Arche would be very pleased to have you join them in volunteering whatever time you have to meet the "core" community members, share a dinner with them, and assist with the financial needs of the community.

The G-8 and Children's and Maternal Health

World Vision caught the Vision

The G-8 will be held in Aquila, Italy this year- that town crushed recently by the earthquake.
World Vision has an issue paper on children's and maternal health:

Between Cutie's Rock and a Hard Place

OK-That was an awful Pun.

Things to consider: If he is "In Love" with a woman with whom he has been intimately involved for two years --did either of them use birth control? If so (likely on her part) then the fact that he could not openly marry her caused them both to sin if you hold birth control to be a sin. The church rules preventing a married priesthood therefore caused the sin.

If he dumps her, what kind of role model or example is that in terms of male honor? Screw around for 2 years and pick your job over the love of your life in the name of God and service to God when there are a lot of ways to serve God? Who is going to think he has three ounces of integrity if he does this to a woman? What other guys would like to just screw around with someone for a few years and dump them if it looks more lucrative?

If he chooses the church over the girl what does that say about the sanctity of marriage?
He chose not to be married, dissed a Sacrament- for a position in a hierarchy.

If he was doing this for two years without anyone complaining how is anyone arguing now that the pictures came to light that his job performance was in any respect compromised? Clearly it is not Ontologically Incompatible to be a priest and be involved and in love with a woman. They are not spiritually mutually exclusive endeavors.

The Myth that Priests have to be celibate to be holier is nowhere more pronounced than in the blanket cautioning in 1 Timothy 4 that states clearly that in the end times, there will be people who forbid marriage- and this is a FALSE ASCETICISM-it is evil in fact. Then there is the clear
MANDATE that a Bishop and Deacon should be the husband of only one wife (not four, not ZERO) with his kids in disciplined order- why? Because that is the first training ground. If you cannot discipline your own kids you have no right to run a church. If you have no kids, you have no right to call yourself a "Father" much less a "Bishop" Call no man "Father" but your father who is in heaven.

The fact that the tradition of the church has veered far away from the original Biblical mandates and wisdom in the name of preserving the Institution speaks for Institutional Reform, not ignoring the Biblical mandates.

That is why I call for VATICAN III- a Conference to Address the Married Priesthood Option
and a FULL evidencing of the damage done to women of the age of consent due to the relationships that historically happened to the severe destruction of the emotional lives of these women in these sorts of involvements which are met with vicious church intimidation and abuse fearing litigation. Father Cutie should be the head of this convention.

There is no other Loving way to Proceed in the Spirit of Christ.

Holy Father Firmly Condemns Anti-Semitism

Pilgrim of Peace; Pilgrimmage Itinerary

CHRISTIANS CALLED TO OFFER RECONCILIATION AND FORGIVENESS
From the official Vatican Information Service

VATICAN CITY, 10 MAY 2009 (VIS) - At 4.30 p.m. today, Benedict XVI travelled by car to the area of Bethany beyond the Jordan, located 50 kilometres from Amman on the border between Jordan and Israel. The precise location of Bethany remains unknown but it is believed to be located some 200 metres west of the Hill of the Prophet Elijah, in an area yet to be excavated.

On arrival the Pope boarded an electric car to visit the site. He was accompanied by King Abdullah, Queen Rani and Prince Ghazi, while an entourage followed in eleven other similar vehicles. As they went, the director of the al-Mughtas Centre explained the various features of the archaeological itinerary of the "Baptism Site" which concludes in an area where two churches are currently being built, one Latin and one Greek-Melkite. The purpose of the Holy Father's visit was to bless the cornerstones of the new buildings.

Having completed the itinerary, the Holy Father began his remarks by affirming that Bethany is "a place marked by many memorable events in biblical history. The prophet Elijah ... was from this area", he said. "Here the Spirit of the Lord called John the son of Zechariah to preach a conversion of hearts. John the Evangelist also places in this area the meeting between the Baptist and Jesus, Who at His baptism was 'anointed' by the Spirit of God".

"The foundation stone of a church is a symbol of Christ", Pope Benedict explained. "The Church rests on Christ, is sustained by Him and cannot be separated from Him. He is the one foundation of every Christian community. ... With Him, we too are living stones built into a spiritual house. ... The Church is in Christ a community of new life, a dynamic reality of grace that flows from Him".

The Holy Father then recalled how "we enter the Church through Baptism. The memory of Christ's own Baptism is brought vividly before us in this place. Jesus stood in line with sinners and accepted John's baptism of penance as a prophetic sign of His own passion, death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. ... May the Jordan always remind you that you have been washed in the waters of Baptism and have become members of the family of Jesus. Your lives, in obedience to His word, are being transformed into His image and likeness".

"May the prayerful contemplation of these mysteries", he continued, "enrich you with spiritual joy and moral courage. With the Apostle Paul, I encourage you to grow in the whole range of noble attitudes covered by the blessed name of 'agape', Christian love. Promote dialogue and understanding in civil society, especially when claiming your legitimate rights. In the Middle East, marked by tragic suffering, by years of violence and unresolved tensions, Christians are called to offer their contribution, inspired by the example of Jesus, of reconciliation and peace through forgiveness and generosity.

"Continue being grateful to those who lead you and serve you faithfully as ministers of Christ", the Pope added in conclusion. "You do well to accept their guidance in faith knowing that, by receiving the apostolic teaching they transmit, you welcome Christ and you welcome the One Who sent Him".

Following the rite of blessing the cornerstones, Benedict XVI returned to the apostolic nunciature in Amman, where he spent the night.

HOLY FATHER DEPARTS FROM JORDAN

VATICAN CITY, 11 MAY 2009 (VIS) - Having celebrated a private Mass at the apostolic nunciature in Amman this morning, the Pope travelled to Queen Alia international airport, where a brief ceremony was held before his departure from Jordan.

At the end of this the first stage of his Holy Land pilgrimage, the Holy Father expressed his thanks to King Abdullah II for his hospitality, and to everyone who had made his visit possible.

"I would like to encourage all Jordanians, whether Christian or Muslim, to build on the firm foundations of religious tolerance that enable the members of different communities to live together in peace and mutual respect", said the Pope.

"His Majesty the King has been notably active in fostering inter-religious dialogue, and I want to put on record how much his commitment in this regard is appreciated. I also gratefully acknowledge the particular consideration that he shows towards the Christian community in Jordan. This spirit of openness not only helps the members of different ethnic communities in this country to live together in peace and concord, but it has contributed to Jordan's far-sighted political initiatives to build peace throughout the Middle East".

The ceremony over, the Pope boarded his plane bound for Tel Aviv, Israel, where he arrived half an hour later.
PV-JORDAN/DEPARTURE/AMMAN VIS 090511 (220)

VATICAN CITY, 11 MAY 2009 (VIS) - At 11 a.m. local time today (10 a.m. in Rome), Benedict XVI arrived at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he was greeted by Shimon Peres, president of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister, the country's civil and political authorities, and the ordinaries of the Holy Land.

In his address, the Pope expressed his thanks for the welcome to the State of Israel, "a land", he said, "which is held holy by millions of believers around the world, ... a land that is hallowed by the footsteps of patriarchs and prophets, a land that Christians hold in particular veneration as the setting for the events of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. ... I come, like so many others before me, to pray at the holy places, to pray especially for peace - peace here in the Holy Land, and peace throughout the world".

He also noted how the Holy See and the State of Israel "have many shared values, above all a commitment to give religion its rightful place in the life of society. The just ordering of social relationships presupposes and requires a respect for the freedom and dignity of every human being, whom Christians, Muslims and Jews alike believe to be created by a loving God and destined for eternal life. When the religious dimension of the human person is denied or marginalized, the very foundation for a proper understanding of inalienable human rights is placed in jeopardy.

"Tragically, the Jewish people have experienced the terrible consequences of ideologies that deny the fundamental dignity of every human person", he added. "It is right and fitting that, during my stay in Israel, I will have the opportunity to honour the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Shoah, and to pray that humanity will never again witness a crime of such magnitude. Sadly, anti-Semitism continues to rear its ugly head in many parts of the world. This is totally unacceptable. Every effort must be made to combat anti-Semitism wherever it is found, and to promote respect and esteem for the members of every people, tribe, language and nation across the globe.

"During my stay in Jerusalem, I will have the pleasure of meeting many of this country's distinguished religious leaders. One thing that the three great monotheistic religions have in common is a special veneration for that holy city. It is my earnest hope that all pilgrims to the holy places will be able to access them freely and without restraint, to take part in religious ceremonies and to promote the worthy upkeep of places of worship on sacred sites".

The Holy Father continued: "Even though the name Jerusalem means 'city of peace', it is all too evident that, for decades, peace has tragically eluded the inhabitants of this holy land. The eyes of the world are upon the peoples of this region as they struggle to achieve a just and lasting solution to conflicts that have caused so much suffering. The hopes of countless men, women and children for a more secure and stable future depend on the outcome of negotiations for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

"In union with people of good will everywhere, I plead with all those responsible to explore every possible avenue in the search for a just resolution of the outstanding difficulties, so that both peoples may live in peace in a homeland of their own, within secure and internationally recognised borders. In this regard, I hope and pray that a climate of greater trust can soon be created that will enable the parties to make real progress along the road to peace and stability".

The Holy Father completed his remarks by addressing Catholics, recalling how he will be joining them in Nazareth for the concluding celebrations of the Year of the Family. "The family", he said, "is the 'first and indispensable teacher of peace', and hence it has a vital role to play in healing divisions in human society at every level.

"To the Christian communities in the Holy Land, I say: by your faithful witness to Him Who preached forgiveness and reconciliation, by your commitment to uphold the sacredness of every human life, you can make a particular contribution to ending the hostilities that for so long have afflicted this land. I pray that your continuing presence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories will bear much fruit in promoting peace and mutual respect among all the peoples who live in the lands of the Bible".

At the end of the ceremony the Pope travelled by helicopter to the heliport of Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, where he was greeted by Nir Barkat, mayor of the city. From there he was taken by car to the apostolic delegation in Jerusalem where he had lunch.

This afternoon the Holy Father is due to pay a courtesy visit to President Shimon Peres, to visit the Yad Vashem Memorial and to meet with members of organisations dedicated to inter-religious dialogue in the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Centre.

A Word of the Lord For Fr. Cutie and all those like him

From the Sojourner Prophet of Peace:

Thus says the Lord God:

Enough, O princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression, and do what is just and right. Cease your evictions of my people, says the Lord God.
- Ezekiel 45:9
"The favors of the Lord are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent."

POPE Benedict at Vad Yashem, Israel.

Holy Father Affirms- it's All About Love.

In the Holiest Lands

The Pope through his Vatican spokesperson Father Lombardi, S.J. noted:

...the Holy Father's "critical realism," which brought him to note "the grave defects of many of the traditionalists' statements" as well as the "members of the Church and society who meet all efforts of reconciliation, or even of the recognition of positive elements in others, with rigid intransigence."The Pope's letter concludes, the spokesman said, "by reiterating an impassioned appeal for love as the absolute priority for Christians, and by expressing a hope for peace in the community of the Church."

Chastity with no Love is a greater sin than unchastity with Love. Because God is Love. The people who parade Chastity as a higher virtue than Love have missed the Front Pearly Gates for the sign-posts on the road. Those who misguidedly condemn others as "unchaste" for simply knowing the difference between the Front Gates and the signposts are beyond ignorant.
I tried to love you
but you were just an Ass
I tried to tell you
but you threw my heart in the trash
I tried to protect you
but you threw me to the lions
I hid these mysteries in my heart
but you burned it with a flatiron
I tried to warn you
of demons and devils and lies
and you just believed them
and fell for their wimpering cries.
I tried to save you
and pave for you
the way to paradise
and you are still pacing the street
trying to find the sky.
So how dare you blame fruitlessness on me
that was half your responsibility.

Confessions of a Cutie

And Support for the Priestly Marriage Option

For the ones really in love with their one true Love. Father Cutie the "scandalized" priest in Miami who fell in love with a woman comes clean in his TV interview.

http://news.aol.com/article/priest-in-racy-photos-admits-affair/474450?icid=mainmaindl1link3http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Fpriest-in-racy-photos-admits-affair%2F474450

If you really love someone you don't just dismiss them, says Cutie (paraphrased) who affirms the value of celibacy but favors a "marriage option." He doesn't want to be the Postor Boy for lifting celibacy, which he values as an institutional vow. The "option" is what is important however to preserve for marriage (monogamous heterosexual) because the Holy Spirit does not give all the gift of celibacy for a lifetime- the Holy Spirit gives some that gift for a time, and later can give them the gift of a woman who really actually truly loves them. Killing off this option is killing off the Will of God for both people's lives.

The life, hopes, and heart of a woman is involved. If the church actually practiced LOVE,
the church would weigh the Hopes and Heart of a woman carefully and seriously and give it
great significance. Otherwise the Blessed MOTHER thinks you are a pathetic pretending joke. http://www.marriedpriests.org/

The notion that it is holier to go to coctail parties to suck up to suggar mommas pretending to make girlfriends out of a harem of the lonely ladies club to get the parish in their wills than to build a family with a woman you are in love with is just beyond pathetic. You all ought to be ashamed. Of course Cutie should be able to be married and not lose his job.

Here is his legal recourse: TITLE VII of the Civil Rights Act, 42 U.S.C 200oe et seq.. It is discriminatory to penalize someone for being a male who falls in love with a female in an employment context. It is gender discrimination against a particular type of male. It is in fact illegal in America to dismiss someone from a job because of a gender attribute.
I recommend he go to his nearest ACLU office. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/42/usc_sup_01_42_10_21_20_VI.html
[There is a religious org. exemption for "hire" in terms of hiring only those qualified by the religion, such that it isn't under the law discriminatory to not hire a female priest when the rules of the religion state priests must be males- that is written in the exemptions to the law- what IS NOT in the law is the exemption ability to FIRE someone or harm them in any aspect of employment (suspension, removal, termination, demotion, etc.) once they are hired and clearly qualified, because of being a male who then chooses to marry a female after in the employment. That appears to be gender discrimination-discrimination due to "sex" gender. It appears to be illegal and in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as Amended. This is not a legal opinion or advice and it is urged that a lawyer in the jurisdiction where one resides should provide the necessary advice. ]

THE MARRIAGE OPTION. A HEALTHIER CHURCH. A MORE LOVING CHURCH.

Jesus NEVER made a qualification of office of any disciple, apostle or follower that they MUST mandatorily remain lifetime celibates to serve as "priests" apostles, followers or disseminators of his body and blood. JPII admited it.

Where love is, God is there.
Christ's love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear, and let us love the living God.
And may we love each other with a sincere heart.
Where Love is, God is there.
As we are gathered into one body,
Beware, lest we be divided in mind.
Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease,
And may Christ our God be in our midst.

If you want to sound a trumpet for a clarion call, make sure the score calls for a trumpet not the
Clarinet or an Oboe. Sounding a trumpet when the score asks for an oboe is like planting a hotdog at a gourmet pate event- tasteless and screws up the ambiance.

If you want to sound a trumpet for a clarion call and you do it a centimeter from my inner ear, I am going to tell you to blow it outside because you are breaking my ear drums and are totally obnoxious.

Context matters. Strategy matters.

It's not a question of dilution (or "watering down") -it's a question of effectivenss in communicating the message. It doesn't matter how good or right the message is if no one is listening.

Being a Cutie shouldn't be a handicap in being Jesus' love in the world.

DON'T HATE ME BECAUSE I AM BEAUTIFUL

"Celibacy should be lifted" declared a female lawyer originally from Nicaragua from his Parish working in International Conflict Resolution in Washington, DC. She noted the Vatican should establish a Commission in order that the entire issue be seriously revisited. This is her parish priest and she is "touched" by the masterful wonderful intelligent loving effective way that he does his job, which she does not think has anything to do with whether he chose or not to become involved with a woman. She suggests a gradual lifting of the celibacy rules for those who choose to live a married monogamous life. She declared it "common sense." They do healings in that church the first Friday of every month- and people are healed. This is the ministry of Jesus. There is an overwhelming desire in the Parish to support this Parish Priest even though he was immediately removed. The entire church started loudly speaking out about the injustice of this. Fr. Alberto Cutie, Saint Francis de Sales church, Miami, Florida.

Sins of the Fathers

The Republican Rally Catholic Prayer Breakfast

Today at the Hilton where Reagan was shot the new Archbishop of Saint Louis who currently resides in Rome as head of the Cannon Law adjudicative body (sort of a cannon law Supreme Court Justice) there all but put a political hit on anyone who disagrees with any aspect of the strategy and tactics of the Republican mantras and mandates prohibiting pro-choice legislation of any kind and same sex marriage. Not slightly ironic is the fact that these are two areas of moral law that (a) Jesus never once directly addressed anywhere in scripture and (b) Priests are the least existentially experienced or qualified to render authentic opinions on.

If there were ever a doubt that this is how they will rally the troops in future elections it was
dispelled here as the shouts of hurrah pervaded the room as Republican congressmen and a
Senator or two cheered and clapped, especially when he made the pronouncement that one can not call oneself a "catholic" if they do not adhere to his narrow views. So call me a "Jesuit" or a "Christian" then. If you keep pushing it- call me "Presbyterian."

Completely absent was any responsible discussion of the fact that during the years 2005-2007 when Bush ran the country into the ground as evidenced by the dire economic melt-down, abortions rose by FIVE percent- a significant statistic for the most "pro-life President" we have had, isn't it. So apparently legislative strategy matters. Who do you know when asked if they are "pro-life" says "no, actually I am pro-death." The only people I have met touching on this is a priest with a twisted martyr complex who hasn't figured out yet that Christ died to give us life in abundance. When he said immitate me, he didn't mean sign up for senseless flogging and sadistically dish it out.

The fact that these are the two eclipsing political issues that this Archbiship argued should trump absolutely everything else of political debate signalled that God was completely not interested or concerned with anyone alive who was single and straight. If you are Gay, God is apparently deeply concerned that you never commit to the sinful lifestyle in a "marriage" and if you are already alive there is nothing about any part of your life that is more relevant than legislation to stop a woman from having the ability to determine whether she will have or abort a child.

The fact that 17 percent of all American children under the age of 5 face chronic hunger IN AMERICA is of no import apparently. The fact that over 5,000 servicepeople in the armed forces lost their lives for a lie to service the oil and war profiteers is of no import. The fact that tens of thousands of service people came back with serious brain traumatic injuries without a few limbs for a lie to serve the oil and war profiteers and are now unemployable or suicidal is of no import. The fact that entire towns are bankrupt, entire communities thrust into poverty, bailouts in the billions, bankrupcies and foreclosures in the millions is of no import, apparently. Torture-big deal. Unjust war? So what's a little Mass Murder. Genocide in Darfur? Where's Darfur? Poverty? Let them eat muffin caps. Health-care, schmelth care. Let them die for undiagnosed breast cancer because they can't afford the biopsy...
The only questions aparently on a politician's moral horizon should be-did you vote against same sex marriage and what have you done to overturn Roe v. Wade?

I agree with Tom Reese's perspective below on why the lecturing from the top has lost it's appeal. Moreover, I submit that the issue is aggravated by the fact that the speakers are inauthentic in their moral pronouncements because they do not have the experiential "foundation" from which to speak to issues of abortion and gay marriage, for different reasons, and thus they appear hypocritical and/or inauthentic. They lack "foundation" to lay the testimony- as we lawyers are cautioned.

The church has had a historic problem in its respect for women. Take for example the issue of the priest recently "scandalized" by frolicking with a woman in Miami. Either the priest lied to her and did not tell her he was a priest or she was led to believe by this priest that he was genuine in his affections and so she ventured into the emotionally trecherous territory of becoming "involved" with a priest. Then like a hot potato she is dumped and denounced so he can suck up to his superiors and this girl is never even given a name on the news. The question "How Must She Feel" is never asked. Women's feelings are deemed irrelevant to the higher political purpose. Because it is a hierarchy entirely of men. Men without natural children. She is just branded a tramp- next. I have met a Priest or two I would like to
call "Father Bastard" if I ever run into him again (not by far the majority, just one or two). There is absolutely no accountability for the disrespect that some priests show women in the name of God. This factors into the loss of authenticity of the moral voice of the church. A lot. We think you are often times just plainly speaking, full of it.

Instead the church houses male priests with Men, in a "same sex" housing situation called a Rectory from which there is no escape, in a "same sex" union of purpose in becoming a "family" to the parishioners. The fact there are men of the cloth co-domiciling with each other who want to commit to each other like a marriage is little different than what I witness in some Rectories. In light of the recent homosexual and/or pedofiliac sex abuse scandals the pun "That's Why They Call It A Rectory" seems almost funny- Almost.

The only way the Church can possibly regain its authentic voice in addressing the Moral Law order of "true marriage" is if they have one; if they have the first clue from the inside, not gazing like peeping Toms through confessionals what it is like to live in one. The Church ABSOLUTELY should recover what was lost in providing a venue for a marriage option within the priesthood. It is in fact a Timothy 4 biblical MANDATE. Once again, when the "spirit of the church" contradicts and disobeys the dictates of Christ, the Church not Christ is off the rails.

Also, it is clear that the Republican platform committee just wants to preserve this as another hot button wedge issue when there is an obvious simple solution; the church could call it "holy matrimony" and that gives it the sacramental meaning that the civil approval never can- "marriage" then becomes just a term like "civil union." The thing Adam and Eve did in the garden didn't have to be called anything- it was clear what it was from the action. If the church sacramental blessing is given, then it can use the words "holy" and other terms nowhere present in any civil legislation. Easy.

Not only will a marriage option provide a variety of socially healthier more mature priests, (who can't get away with being Father Bastards) it will allow the church to speak from an authentic voice that it currently lacks.

Then and only then can we really get about the hard business of solving real problems rather than printing and declaring clerical bumper sticker condemnations to get the guys elected that pay the best. This is a far more "Pro-Life" perspective -a far more integrous perspective, and one that will build bridges of peace rather than inspire petty perverse hatreds.

A church with a married priest option would be a more loving church, a more responsible church, one with a moral voice that is listened to more, one that wouldn't be condemned so readily as hypocritical, one that would vet out the wheat from the chaff, and one that understood Jesus better. Now, that dim glass we are looking through needs a rinse through the spin cycle.

CHRIST DID NOT COME INTO THE WORLD TO CONDEMN THE WORLD BUT THAT ALL SHOULD BE SAVED THROUGH HIM.

If you are coming from a place of condemnation, punishment and persecution, Jesus isn't walking with you. God is Love. So simple it confounds the wise-even the clerically wise in their own conceits.
