If you want to sound a trumpet for a clarion call, make sure the score calls for a trumpet not the
Clarinet or an Oboe. Sounding a trumpet when the score asks for an oboe is like planting a hotdog at a gourmet pate event- tasteless and screws up the ambiance.

If you want to sound a trumpet for a clarion call and you do it a centimeter from my inner ear, I am going to tell you to blow it outside because you are breaking my ear drums and are totally obnoxious.

Context matters. Strategy matters.

It's not a question of dilution (or "watering down") -it's a question of effectivenss in communicating the message. It doesn't matter how good or right the message is if no one is listening.
