Horns of a Dilemna Today at the Center for American Progress there was one Libyan defector who previously was an Ambassador to Khadaffi's regime and now wants regime change and is on the side of and part of the new provisional opposition counsel. He came peddling his cause for more arms. He doesn't want any foreign troops on the land. He says thanks to Quatar and the UAE and great thanks and applause to Obama without whom they would be doomed and have lost their shirts. He also wants all the frozen assets Khadaffi's family has in the US and in Britain and France believed to be combined over fifty billion dollars (dollar/euro equivalent). Looking like the biggest heist the world has seen where the US freezes assets, and turns it over to the side we like- with obvious apparent potential for dealing and wheeling over who gets what- 50 Billion of who gets what. Clearly, someone is going to get filthy rich off nuking Khadaffi's family and I can imagine who on this side of the pond is lining up for their share of democratic spoils. As for the arms dealers? Who besides Boeing is going to strike gold? Buy stock in Boeing now people. Oh-and the entire Army of CHAD has been hired as mercenaries for the Khadaffi side. Oh, and an Israeli company brokered the deal. We send in troops we are fighting the entire army of CHAD and a few other african countries--and we think we can come out with any limbs left? Maybe the US should take off the top the costs of the No Fly zone from the frozen assets. No response to the question asked by a reporter "Has anyone said that's legal?" Looks like a raid after a bomb throwing festival of a sitting sovereign ruler. The UN Resolution didn't demand regime change or challenge the sovereignty of Libya. This defector gave no room for mediation or compromise rebuffing all Khadaffi's family and sons. He said the Libyans are not tolerating any longer the "we rule you or we kill you" ethic of the Khadaffi family. This is what Obama means when he says Khadaffi has "lost all legitimacy." The problem is while the defector has a loud Microphone and sounds like he talks for "all the libyan people" the jury is still out on that one. All but the ones fighting for Khadaffi- and beating back the rebels city by city in some cases. All but the ones paid for by him.
