Is Already Saved.
The economy could use a kickstart though.
Mitt's line comes out of a Mormon mission playbook- they want to save your soul. Mormon theocracy? Religion of Capitalism? Is capitalism on trial or is some national religion? Romney's stumping about 'saving the soul of America' is catchy but perverse. First of all, this is one of the most self-describedly religious populations on the planet.
What he means is- he is looking for more Mormon converts who will line up and work for him under his theory of the Kingdom.
There is only one account of the Judgment Day in the Bible that Christians hold dear. That is in Matthew 25 wherein Jesus himself tells us that he will separate the sheep from the goats and throw the goats to a place where there will be gnashing of teeth and wailing. Who are the sheep? Those who feed the hungry, tend to the sick, visit and free the oppressed, clothe the naked, etc....
Every Christian ought to aspire to do that- because as James said, Faith without works is dead. It isn't how much money you make, its how much you take care of other people. Romney's formula for soul saving is suspect. And the rhetoric misplaced. American business without responsible government oversight or regulation is a formula for rampant greed to run amuck.
Even Gingrich knows that Rivers can be ablaze in fire with pollution without an EPA to regulate clean up of toxic dumping. Does that regulation kill jobs under Romney's formula? Probably- if it mandates shutting the factory down until they can install something that won't dump toxic life threatening chemicals into the river that is on fire.
The Saving the Soul of America rhetoric is insulting. Just like much of Romney's stumping.
We are not jealous of the wealth, we are insulted at the bigotry. And we don't want it running the country.
