« Individu ou personne : quelles
conséquences dans l’univers de l’entreprise ? » Individual or Person:
Consequences for Corporate ManagementThe conference will be held in
French, with English interpretation (during the following Q&A, questions can
be asked in English)PresentationOn one hand companies
are inclined to manage their employees as individuals (contracts, incentives,
performance evaluations, bonuses, individual dismissals)... On other hand,
companies have discovered the productivity gains that can arise from
interpersonal relationships (team-building, project teams, work-life balance).
Beyond words, the distinction between “individual” and “person” refers to
contrasting conceptions of Man, his purpose and his development. Designed as an
individual, Man develops his own identity and his innate abilities, given from
the outset, as the acorn becomes an oak. And according to classical and
neoclassical economics, individuals are rational and independent, and optimize
their behavior to maximize their own welfare. Depending on the conception of Man
at work in companies, corporate management can vary from simply coordinating
individuals, to enabling full cooperation among individuals.Adopting a
historical perspective of the concepts of "individual" and "person", Roger
Baudoin, a researcher at the College of Bernardins in Paris casts a rich and
unique light on current issues of corporate management.Baudoin
RogerAlumnus of the Ecole Polytechnique (1976), the ENS of
Advanced Technology (1981), and CPA (1987), Roger Baudoin entered the seminary
after fourteen years of professional life. Priest of the Diocese of Paris, he
heads the "Economics, Man and Society" Research Department of the Collège
des Bernardins in Paris. He is chaplain at Notre Dame de Paris, diocesan
chaplain of the Young Professionals of the Christian Movement of
Executives.Website (in French): http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=57dvbseab&et=1109187622604&s=4982&e=001JFAqY3kkn9gvJCSJAHFZ9rydjTOzSygavu1izwpYhKLm4Ah5doc7c5ZYMT8uTtJM2ANnGYVL13A5u48pWS-9rMPidG43m9fJgMnnWFsmDWA2pmpxqqKhSg==Le Collège des
BernardinsThe Collège des Bernardins (originally the College
Saint-Bernard), was established in 1245 to serve as a place of study and
research at the core of Christian thinking. Sold as a bien public
(public good) at the Revolution, it has recently been reinvested by the Diocese
of Paris to make it a place of research and debate for the Church and society.
The Collège des Bernardins is supported by a research center, which is
composed of six departments working on the following topics: Human Societies and
Educational Responsibilities; Economy, Man and Society; Biomedical Ethics;
Society, Freedom, Peace; Judaism and Christianity; and The word of
