Without Knowledge is a Con Not a Choice
There is a basic principle in medicine called 'Informed Consent." This means you have a right to have all the pertinent information regarding your procedures before they are undertaken so the consent that you give to the surgery or procedure is 'informed.' People sign off on 'informed consent' forms and medical malpractice issues can touch on whether the consent was informed for that particular procedure. If you gave informed consent for an appendectomy because your appendix burst and they took out your liver instead, you have a claim for serious medical malpractice if you live to tell it.
If they do abortions and do not fully inform the woman of what exactly she is aborting, e.g. tell you it is but a few cells, or a blob of nothing much, rather than a live little human being, her child, via an ultrasound and all possible graphic explanation, just as they show you x rays before they dare take out a tooth, then the Informed Consent principle is violated. It should in fact be malpractice not to show someone an ultrasound prior to an abortion. If that is not clear it should be statutorily codified nationally.
No good purpose is served by ignorance.
I am in favor of a federal statute that holds that every abortion must be preceeded by an ultrasound or it is malpractice and the woman may sue and get statutory attorney fees.
