Really.
Sometimes God hits you with something so overwhelming you are humbled beyond anything you ever wanted to feel or would ever choose for yourself. These sorts of sufferings create Graces we could never fabricate in ourselves. They are designed to carve something into our eternal souls that is either useful here or in the hereafter in ways we may not appreciate.
Apparently God gave such an experience to the noted conservative Washington journalist Bob Novack who underwent recently the same sort of brain tumor removal surgery Kennedy did at Duke University.
He was first downed and humiliated by being a "hit and run" accused after a pedestrian
had a conflict with his windshield apparently. He tells of his journey in an article he wrote which is found in today's Washington Post. I highly recommend it to everyone of every political persuasion.
Bob Novack, not known for his humility is a prolific author. He recently weathered the accusations about leaking Valerie Plame's identity in spy-gate and was hauled before a grand jury. In the Washington world of hate or be hated he was not just hated but hunted.
He has long been identified with conservative politicians and causes.
Funny how a brain tumor that partially blinds you can cause you to see things you never saw before.
He is on a new journey where guys like Ted Kennedy he discovered have a compassionate heart larger than his waistline, and the Duke Blue Devils may be angelic even when fighting his beloved Maryland. Other things worth railing at may not be now, and people might be viewed with a greater wisdom through the prism of one good eye. In the end, one may discover, all that matters is the love you can show even those who hate you in spite of yourself.
I hope Bob Novack keeps writing, and keeps learning how good and beautiful things around him are every day. Maybe he will even write prose in praise of the Obama's one day.
With God, everything is possible.
