Council of Europe upholds Conscientious Objector Rights for Medical Personnel
Imagine having spent years training to be a doctor at substantial financial sacrifice for your whole family and being told that you had to commit an abortion or get fired-by the government. Well, because of public health arrangements/laws in various European countries fortunately the cost of a medical education is much less than it is here and highly subsidized. But the trade off is that there is much more governmental oversight (read intrusion) into medical policies.
Read this Zenit article. The Europeans at the Council of Europe now agree- you cannot require a physician to commit an abortion if he has a moral objection to it. http://www.zenit.org/article-30583?l=english This means that if a medical institution takes any action against any such physician they can expect legal action.
