Powerful Women

And The Men Whose Egos Are So Busted They Can't Stand It.

Here is the latest- now OPRAH has to defend that she is not Gay. http://www.popeater.com/2010/12/08/oprah-winfrey-gayle-relationship/?ncid=webmail
Remember when Hillary had to do it. It happens to powerful women over a certain age if they have any authority over men and are highly accomplished,
powerful and professional and more to single women. She must be gay. Not that she had her
heart broken so much she gave up and devoted herself to other things, or met so many Mr. Wrongs she backburnered the quest for Mr. Right, or devoted herself to career and other needy family.Just---- She must be gay.
Oprah might have profound trust issues dealing with men from a childhood rape. Psyches are vey delicate- men can be -that word I called John Edwards (see below)
I am nowhere in Oprah's league (yet) of building an industry but get it too. Especially since I
have gay male friends I love to hang out with. I am not even remotely 'butch' looking but I get it just for being a single female lawyer (who would rather write a brief than pick up male socks sometimes.) Supreme Court nominee Kagan got it (well, she might be but no one had real facts and couldn't stop saying so.)
When the male ego is busted and they cannot stand a woman making more money than them, in more power and authority (especially if over them) they sometimes resort to this name-calling- Dyke, *itch, Lesbo, etc...This isn't hateful so much as a reflection of their own insecurities.
But this is still widely socially acceptable- and that is outrageous.

Here is where it becomes ridiculous- Men over a certain age are called "the most eligible batchelors" while women at the same age are "over the hill" or 'Gay.' Why don't we get to be classified as fine wines better with time-look at Sophia Loren- for example. or any hollywood over 50 georgeous woman- Diane Keaton.
Lets change the Lexicon. Lets call single professional women over 50 "The Bloomed Bombshells" or the "Mature Maidens" or the "Svelte Seniors." But please, don't call me Gay. Not that I think there is anything wrong with it for some-just not me. Like Oprah, I'm not even a little bit....
