Envy and Pride
When you get them in the same room you have a war. Envy wants and covets something of another-whether it is their looks, education, connections, money, house, children, dress size, wife or anything that is someone else's in the divine plan and path. Here's a quiz-which of the ten commandments is directed at prohibiting this sort of envy.
Pride can inspire it. God resists the proud. He in fact hates the proud. But he isn't too fond of the envious and covetous either. Both are states of violence against Grace. That is why sometimes God uses them to check each other so they don't overwhelm a soul. But neither should be mistaken even as instruments- they are both sin -soaked souls.
