GOD IS BACK

ADRIAN WOOLDRIDGE

is supremely witty and on point in his analysis of the resurgence of the role of religious life in America in his new book "GOD IS BACK."

Of course, God never went away, we just didn't give him all that much play. Adrian Wooldridge is the bureau chief of sorts of the Economist Magazine here in Washington and previously wrote the "Lexington Column."
A positively delightful character and I highly recommend you have him speak to your event.

"God is Back" opens, as Adrian explained in his talk to some DC ethics and public policy forum that has George Weigel's name all over it, in a scene of an apartment home church in China where scripture is read and projected on a wall to a group of 25 or less people, as only 25 people at most may gather for fear of attracting too much attention. Christianity is still not a favored activity in China and persecution means more than the left boot of fellowship; it can mean the lock up for merely gathering en masse to celebrate a Mass. No First Amendment in
China. We need to export it, he argued. The non-establishment of religion has served both the state and all religions in a non-monopolistic competition of ideas and religious worship and expression that should well be exported into the world. He traced the European history, treaty of Westphalia and all that sought to forever prevent the war of religions in Europe that were bloody aweful. Note to that Bishop in Kansas that keeps calling the culture wars "War"- been there, done that.
Adrian predicted that in the not too distant future China may have a competing large population of Christians and a large population of Muslims who will try to worship without fear
in a country that is hospitable to neither. Adrian is nothing short of brilliant in his exposition of
religion in western civilization- all of it actually- the European post-Voltaire secularization and the modernity that co-exists with American religious expression and worship. He gives the American version of religious freedom the thumbs up and declares us tolerant and more enlightened than The Enlightenment.
He noted his book "God is Back" is liable to tick off just about everyone, at least superficially until they actually read it; the Right will be offended because God never left, the athiestic Hitchens variety of self-annointed prophets of nothingness will declare it nonsense.
The left curve question of the evening came from me- how would the Europeans respond to the fact that 55 or so bishops are facing down the President by declaring him unfit to speak at a major catholic college with over a quarter million signatures of ticked off alumns who won't buy season tickets to the football game anymore? To this he rippped Roe v. Wade a new one and said it was a jurisprudential piece of sloven american dementia essentially without any real jurisprudential penumbral intelligibility based on the fabrication of rights which mean whatever circularly you want them to to support the conclusion. England dealt with the issue with a serious series of hotly contested referenda politically which gave legitimacy to the legalization of abortion through a democratic process. He noted that the time frame in England wherein it is legal to have an abortion has been decreased recently (as viability is feasible earlier and earlier)- and that it is apauling that in America anyone would think that an abortion at any phase in a pregnancy should be permitted. Off the radar appauling. [At some point you have to acknowledge that the life of any post-viability pre-born infant in the womb- a PVPBI- has to be protected as any life human-and it isn't the mother's right to knock it off- because it can live with the care of anyone who will care for it. He didn't say that- I submit it's common sense]
This person speaks imminent undiluted truth, not poisoned by the American political finance system that beholds anyone to anyone or anything- He is a rare gem. Get him to speak to Congress and get his book. He is a ray of delightful sanity.

Saint Basil the Great

An early Doctor of the church and fierce opponent of SIMONY- the practice of paying for religious office- which he viewed as a perverse corruption of all things holy and spiritual.

The danger of corruption persists in modern simonistic incarnations, awarding promotion to those with best fundraising results, those whose budgets and councils cater to the monied.

When was Jesus a weapon? NEVER

Questioned by H2onews whether it is licit to deny communion to politicians who favor the death penalty, in similarity to what has happened to pro-abortion politicians, the Archbishop of Santa Fe, Michael Sheehan said:

“I do not want to bring Holy Communion into a situation that makes it look like a penalty. I do not think it is good to take the sacrament of Holy Communion and make it a weapon in a context that is political. I think that would be imprudent. I don’t think that in the Vatican they have been approaching politicians who have a different view in that way, nor do I think we should do it in the United States.”

Struck the Right Tone; Obama's 100 Day Success

OBAMA HITS A HOMERUN

Last night's White House Press conference gave the public assurance that there is profound intelligent life at the helm who fully grasps the significance of his historic moment and the challenges before the country.

What a welcome change.

He struck the perfect tone on all areas of inquiry- and assured the public that he wasn't interested in running car companies or banks and is using the current measures to right a course so off the tracks by the abysmal policies of the past administration . The government is not looking to hold on to any equity of nationalized industries.

He didn't hide from the anger of the pro-life crowd in the Notre Dame uproar and noted that he does have a committed team of reasonable pro-life people working cooperatively with pro-choice people to reduce abortions because there is common ground between reasonable people with the common goal of eliminating unwanted pregnancies that result in abortions. The days where the abortion politics of the strident hateful republican extremist contingent that seeks to make it a perpetual wedge issue without solving the issue is over. The day of people who would rather make petty celebrities of themselves on this issue by hateful rhetoric rather than adopting a child or supporting a pregnant woman or having a child themselves for example have run its course. Tiresome and obnoxious.
Republicans far and wide now admit that this isn't productive- and the moderate defection from the party indicates exactly how off the wall offensive this cultural shift has become. The Spector defection was completely predictable. The Republicans have lost Pennsylvania- both Senators now are Democratic, the Governor is Democratic and this is the bellweather for the reasonable rhetorically responsible rest of the country.

Obama indicated he did agree that waterboarding is torture. We did torture people. He didn't need to say that Bush did lie about it. We all know Bush lied, Condi lied and Cheney like a rabid dog still snarls from the sidelines taking potshots to preseve his crippled legacy defending the indefensible. Winston Churchill, Obama noted, held detainees during WWII and stated and meant that England does not torture. It is a hallmark of a civilized people that torture is not permitted. When Bush said it with crossed fingers behind his back he
was simulating drowning, shackling people to cages like dogs, sending electrocution charges through people and forcing public masturbation and humiliation. Sickening. Bush and Cheney should be the next Exhibit in the Museum of Torture in San Gimignano, Italy (google it).

The question remains concerning whether there should be prosecutions over torture and a more serious 9-11 commission than the whitewashed version that is currently peddled as truth. The first commission did not have subpoena power- so only witnesses who wanted to come came and offered what they wanted to- which was the lock step party line. A Joke. The report contains gaping holes, illogical references, evidentiary short-shrifting and is an incomplete picture of the events of September 11. Jamie Gorelick, a token Democrat on the Commission and veteran of the Clinton Administration indicated in a Q&A before attorneys with the American Constitution Society that she was disappointed that Condi Rice did not appear and that she fought a battle to obtain subpoena power but lost that battle. While the report gets much play in terms of promoting its national security recommendations the issue remains that we do not have the truth, the full truth and nothing but the truth because the commission wasn't a complete thorough investigation and lacked basic investigative tools and necessary funding to do a thorough job. Pat Leahy continues to be correct that we need a fuller investigation with proper financing and subpoena power as to the entire mess.

The political question of whether it will "move the country forward" for everyone in the US to learn that the events were done with the full duplicity of the Bush Administration or not is a separate question as to whether the public still has to eat the half truths that are propelling the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. It may be that if we have a public mia culpa and full disclosure we will be so universally loathed that it will cripple our foreign policy objectives. But here's the news flash; most of the Europeans either under the radar or publically think we were full of it anyway and highly suspect the official 9-11 story to be completely ludicrous. How on earth does the Pentagon get a plane hit it without any protection- when it should be one of the most protected military installations in the world with all the wars we are waging around the world. It is inconceivable, for example that Cheney diverted F16s from Langley the wrong direction over the Atlantic rather than shoot the plane down before it hit the pentagon as has been reported during the massive early morning FAA confusion. People just don't buy it. The perfect circle in the uncharred field in Shanksville looks more like a CIA drone missile hit and there is too much counterspeculation that the plane must have been shot down mid air for its debri to find its way ten miles away through thick woods in an upstream lake.

In Washington, where attorneys go back and forth between large firms at million dollar salaries and government, and where Democrats and Republicans alike populate the partner ranks of these large firms, the lawyers will not be the ones typically promoting full disclosure of all the issues because they have a vested interest in their partners not getting in trouble or disgraced- or financially hit. Defense contractors own a lot of these larger firms. But this should not dissuade people like Leahy from pressing for fuller disclosure and investigation. Neither should it cramp the style of Eric Holder, as beholden or not as he is to Jamie Gorelick or his old firm.

Would this Administration be better off airing the full truth and nothing but the truth? Wouldn't it at least make the country more unified if the skeptics were put to rest if in fact the 9-11 report is ninety percent correct as Gorelick states? It's the ten percent missing that has people most worried- and very credible respectable people will completely lose faith in the government if it cannot be trustworthy on basic credibility pertaining to 9-11- the most devastating internal
catastrophe to hit the country since Pearl Harbor- and the justification that has been used to kill over a million Iraqis.

Are we going to wait for Spain, Germany and the International Criminal Court in absentia to brand the culprits war criminals or are we going to take some steps to ensure that we have done everything we can to get to the full truth of these critically important facts.

These are a few questions that still need answering.-------

HOW SERIOUS ARE YOU REALLY ABOUT ELIMINATING ABORTIONS?
For those who wish to assist the efforts to eliminate unwanted pregnancies to eliminate abortions, consider assisting the Catholic Alliance for the Common Good- a voice of reason.

Dear Supporter: After 14 straight years of decline, the teen birth rate in the United States increased by five percent between 2005 and 2007. While motherhood and children are a gift, early pregnancy and parenting strongly compromise opportunities. Teen pregnancy has been directly linked to poverty and income disparities. A child born to an unmarried teen mother without a high school diploma or GED is nine times more likely to endure poverty. Girls born to teen mothers are 22 percent more likely to become teen mothers, and sons of teen mothers are more likely to end up in jail. People of faith and religious leaders are in a unique and powerful position to help end this vicious cycle. Given the recent increase in the teen birth rate, we need to keep this critical issue in front of the press. Consider calling a radio or TV producer to suggest they do a story about teen pregnancy in your area and alert them about the 8th annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy on Wednesday, May 6! It was the feast day of St. Mark the Evangelist last saturday. I popped into St. Patricks Cathedral in Manhattan before heading out to the new Yankee Stadium just to be a praying tourist around 3:00.
Serendipidy would have it that the new Archbishop Dolan was saying a special Mass to celebrate 100 years that the Salesian sisters have been together serving the Lord in the New York/New Jersey area. I made a perfectly obnoxious pilgrim camera flashing all through the Mass.

I then took the "D" train from Rock Center to the Bronx.

It was the feast day of St. Mark the Evangelist, and the biggest Evangelist to hit the airwaves in the 21st Century, Joel Osteen was in the city- in a few hours he would be telling his corny jokes to a cracked up crowd, setting the place singing like rock and roll angelic choirs and introducing his family to the Bronx and everyone with Trinity Broadcasting Cable.

Here's one: A New York cabbie died and went to heaven and St. Peter met him and asked him what he did on earth "I was a New York city cab driver." Well Done! Saint Peter gave him a silk robe and a golden staff. Then a clergyman died. Saint Peter met him at the gate, asked him what he did on earth "I was a fine man of the cloth." Saint Peter gave him a burlap robe and a woden staff. The clergyman protested "Hey! what's the deal!, why did you give the cabbie the gold and silk and I just got wood and burlap?" To which Saint Peter replied- "we go on results here- when you spoke you put folks to sleep, when the cabbie did his job everyone was praying in the back seat!"

The sky was a clear Marian blue. Joel said essentially "well, Lord, you picked the day so we know it will be perfect" and while it rained cats and dogs earlier in the week, this night was crystal clear and acoustically perfect to hear the rousing choir and sermon. I wonder if he even knew it was the Feast Day of Saint Mark the Evangelist. It was perfect.

Joel's mom, a thin women in her 70s told the story of how she prayed the scriptures Ignatian style that had anything to do with healing to cure her of the metastatic liver cancer she contracted when she was 48 after given the doctor's diagnostic death sentence- 26 years ago. She said "God doesn't love me any more than he loves you" and I'm here to tell you there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Joel's brother Paul, who was a practicing surgeon for 17 years before joining the ministry to set up the medical missions told a case study history of one young woman
who because of a botched abortion had punctured her intestines in four places so it was leaking and infecting her distended abdomen in a near fatal condition- he surgically fixed her intestines and watched despondency turn to bright smiling joy- and noted that Jehovah Raffa, God the healer is living and loves all his children- a surgeon can stitch together intestines, but God brings Joy in the morning. His helpmate, the beautiful Victoria told of how important it is to speak words of blessing not cursing over one's family- how important it is to affirm and build up the body. "We do this together" he said with his arm around his sweetheart.

Joel is a living breathing Angel. Capitol "A" Angel. If he is coming to a city near you- Absolutely Go.
Seriously- your life will not be the same.

God is Good and his Loving Kindness lasts Forever.

God is Good and His Mercy endures Forever.

Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.
Surely, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

To a packed near sell-out YANKEE STADIUM in New York on Saturday Joel Osteen Rocked the House that Ruth built in a "Night of Hope" for three solid hours. No one who attended left the same. A mere blog post cannot do it justice- pictures and video will be posted on facebook.
Joel Osteen Rocks people. Not since Billy Graham's crusades have crowds gathered in this number with this enthusiastic evangelical fervor. Joel Osteen is the heir apparent to Billy Graham.
God has the whole wide world in his hands. And he loves you with such an everlasting abiding love that he sent his only son to save you - which means that you are blessed. I am blessed. And there is no revoking it.
God is Good. You have a future and a hope. I have a future and a hope- and God is still in control.

Under the Radar

What passed the House Judiciary Committee while you were Sleeping http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1913/show

Many states have Hate Crime legislation. It's a trend - and now Congress is picking up on it.
http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/apr/09042407.html

INTERESTING! Let's see who gets totally upset about it.

With regard to the aiding abetting part- wouldn't there have to be classic mens rae criminal intent of the pastor inciter under basic criminal law jurisprudence? How is a pastor to know something he is saying might inspire some nutcase to haul off and do something violent? Some folks are just plain crazy- and pastors can't control all their flock. Is it a criminal negligence standard? Gross recklessness?

HR 1913 references definitionally:

Title 18 USC
§ 16. Crime of violence defined

The term “crime of violence” means—
(a) an offense that has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against the person or property of another, or
(b) any other offense that is a felony and that, by its nature, involves a substantial risk that physical force against the person or property of another may be used in the course of committing the offense.

Reasons why people think we're "crazy"----------

We like to keep Mass interesting. We sit, stand and kneel, in no particular order. Probably just to keep the blood flowing.
- It's not merlot and Ritz they're serving; it's the Flesh and Blood of Jesus. No, really.
- Forget a big meal afterwards, just pick up some of the breakfast tacos they're always selling after Mass
- Purgatory.
- We all have 20 cousins. On each side of the family.
- Infant Baptism isn't dumb; it's after-life insurance.
- $5.00 in the collection basket is the epitome of generosity. Anything more than that, someone has hit the lottery.
- A missal is a book, not a weapon. However, it has been known to pull double duty.
- The signs we make aren't just a mark of respect, they're a lot of fun to do.
- We really like statues. A lot.
- After every confession, everyone hits themselves on the head. This is because they have realized that they forgot that really big sin, and they know that it'll hang over their head til the next time.
- Contraceptives? Why?
- Altar boys continue well into their twenties.
- The 14 Stations has nothing to do with TV.
- We've always been taught that celibacy til marriage is the only way to go, forever and ever, amen. That being said...
- The Mass doesn't start for a few minutes not because of tardy parishioners. It's because the priest is running late.
- The Virgin Mary is not a God and we don't treat her as such. But she is without sin, gave birth to Jesus and did it without having sex. That warrants more than a little respect.
- 11:00 a.m. Mass means 11:15.
- We actually get all the jokes in Dogma.
- There are two very different, irreconcilable factions in every single church in the world. They are known as the Saturday or Sunday Mass bunch.
- St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. SNAKES.
- You miss JPII more than you miss some relatives...
- Bake Sales are a way of life.
- Your knees are more calloused than your feet.
- Priests have been giving us alcohol since we were little kids. No wonder any one of us can drink Protestants under the table.
- The Catholic way of dealing with a mid-life crisis is having another kid.
- Mass is nearly unchanged after almost 2000 years. We're a little stubborn
.- Whatever you gave up for Lent, you have it in your hands at 11:59 p.m. Saturday night, counting the seconds til midnight
.- Episcopalians are referred to as "Diet Catholics"
- You either love or hate the Stations of the Cross. There is no middle ground.
- We all know Da Vinci code is bogus and inaccurate. Yet we'll still read it if nothing else is going on
.- "Offer it up!" = "Quit bitching!"
- We have Midnight Mass so there are no interruptions on Christmas morning
- You've slipped out an Amen after the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Holy Water can kill just about anything. So Protestants are pretty much screwed if a vampire comes calling.
- There's no need for impromptu prayer; you can always fall back on the Rosary.
- Alleluia becomes almost a swear during Lent
- It's not uncommon for just one family to take up an entire pew or two.
- Boondock Saints is the greatest movie ever. E-Ver.
- Confession. Enough said.
- You're of the opinion that Stephen Colbert should be Canonized.
- When in doubt, say a Hail Mary.
- Peter Griffin, a Catholic!
- Whenever anyone in Star Wars saga says "May the Force Be With You", we get the urge to say "And Also With You" (coming soon: "And With Your Spirit)
- The Pope does indeed wear a funny hat. But it's way more interesting than Joel Osteen's suit and tie.
- Even though you never met her or been to a country she's been in, you're still willing to have "seen" a miracle by Mother Teresa.
- We're the oldest Christian religion. Period.

If you appreciated, chuckled or even smiled at some of these, you're not a wacko. You're just probably a member of the one of the oldest and largest religions in the world. Open to all Catholics around the world.------------------------------------------------

Editorial Note: no trashing Joel Osteen- who is the first non-sports guest invited to conduct a meeting at the new Yankee Stadium in NY which he will fill to the gills this Saturday- and Lord willing, I will be there. Watch him on TV if you get Trinity Broadcasting.

And Today's Total Schmuck Award

Goes to the Guy Who Divorced His Wife By Text Message.
http://news.aol.com/article/text-message-divorce/421864

Under Sharia Law apparently a husband need only say three times to a wife "I divorce you" to make it stick. So much for women's rights.

There is little spiritual difference between an abortionist and someone whom out of a perversely inflated misplaced sense of personal power emotionally abuses his woman- both have
terminated the potential for life in her womb.

If the church addressed the issue of "men who are total schmucks" with the same vigilance that they went after "pro-choice" women, they would be much more effective in bringing life in the world - by magnitudes. An all male church hierarchy doesn't want to hear that men are the issue, but they are. Power over Love is never a holy choice.

Ballistic Bishops again

And now Father Pavone on the Notre Dame Fundraising Bandwagon

Hillary can't win apparently yesterday with the Chris Smith pro-life crowd who determined to bring up the abortion issue in an international context to confront and embarass her.
I saw the speech on C-span. Hillary unequivocally stated that she did not at all agree with the China one child forced abortion policy. It is against the beliefs of anyone who is "pro-choice" to favor the forced anything- forced abortions are not something that a "pro-choice" advocate would favor under any circumstance. She finds the practice as appauling as Chris Smith does.
But this was nowhere reported.

I do not want to get another Notre Dame issue email from anyone. Note to anyone out there inclined to send a soliciation to any one of my email addresses: I will have you arrested as a cyber-spamming stalker. (just kidding-what a ludicrous thought-you were just expressing your beliefs.)

I am of the firm belief that the people who are least qualified to lecture a woman on the abortion issue are men who never married and never supported any woman during a pregnancy. That would be you Frank Pavone. So don't waste your cyber-ink on sending me email solicitations for activism to try to get poor Father Jenkins fired, rev up the alumns, incite the Bishops further or demand Obama stand in front of a blown up poster of a mutilated fetus.

I would be far more impressed if you donated ten percent of your salary to support someone who was pregnant, or if you adopted a child. If I am ever pregnant remind me to send you a bill.

RECALIBRATE

THE MORAL COMPASS

Like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot, sometimes you don't realize how off track you are until it's too late.
Like a broken watch that keeps losing five minutes every hour, you may be more or less on time until the time you are so late the meeting was over- you need to recalibrate your watch and fix it for good.

The election last November was a mandate to Recalibrate the Moral Compass.
We got used to the banality of evil and accepted it.
We normalized murder under the name of war and torture under the name of national security.

Whether it is a commission or a Special Prosecutor, one thing is clear- the National Moral Compas must be nationally recalibrated. Or the National Soul will be too late for its meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Retort to Joe Lieberman and John McCain

It's a Much Bigger Issue

http://www.911truth.org/

WHAT DON'T THEY REALLY WANT US TO FIND OUT?

The issue is not whether we are looking back or forward. It is looking forward to look back.
The basis of all legal investigation entails the looking back to ensure that things never repeat and that appropriate retributive justice is rendered toward those who violated the law- or Justice is a meaningless frivolity. All of legal enforcement revisits passed facts.

It didn't work in Nuremburg to simply state that people were following orders. There are some orders you can't and should not in good conscience follow. Obedience cannot be blind. If you are ordered to torture and humiliate someone against what you know in your heart to be moral, just and legal, you have an obligation to resist it.

If 9-11, as many people believe, was a Cheney Neo-con creation, and engineered duplicitously with the alleged perpetrators, and followed with the most gruesome abuses against the dignity of man that the US government has ever done, we need the national catharsis of bringing it all to Justice. This is the first step to recovering our international profile and respect.

It is simply unacceptable [out-f'ing-rageous!] to engineer a war under false pretexts and set ups, continually lie to the American people for many many years about it in almost every material respect, and cover
the most heinous abuses while continuing to deceive Congress and the public, with complete impunity. Over a million Iraqis are dead. Thousands upon thousands of Americans are dead.

It is an insult to just say- let's get over it and look to the future.

It is not enough they are out of office. This wasn't just bad policy- this was and is criminal - and there are lower culprits now paying for it with their time while the engineers are on the gloating lecture circuit.

Joe Lieberman and John McCain are simply mistaken, politically and legally.

I urge that Eric Holder appoint a special prosecutor team to conduct a comprehensive thorough investigation of the entire 9-11 scenario and the following Torture and Murder that ensued from the perspective of profound abuses of Executive Authority that must never again be repeated.

The magnitude of lying, murder, and torture was and is criminal.

Intolerable. Unacceptable. Outrageous. Demonic.

We demand an accounting. We demand the Light.

Ambrose Autpert- WHO??

"Only Love is the Key To Reaching True Knowledge of God" H2o News report of Pope Benedicts General Audience today.

22-April-2009 --
Vatican Information Service report below.

Wednesday Audience:
Ambrose Autpert Discovered the Church's True Face

[Ambrose; the Abbot who resigned in profound disagreement with the monestary.]

VATICAN CITY, 22 APR 2009 (VIS) - In his general audience, held this morning in St. Peter's Square, the Pope proceeded with his series of catecheses on the great writers of the Eastern and Western Churches in the Middle Ages, focusing his attention today on Ambrose Autpert.

Ambrose Autpert, the Holy Father explained, "is a little-known author of the eighth century. His works have, in fact, largely been attributed to other more famous figures, from St. Ambrose of Milan to St. Ildephonsus".
Born to a high-ranking family in Provence, Ambrose Autpert entered the court of the Frankish King Pepin the Short where he was tutor to the future emperor Charlemagne. He subsequently travelled to Italy where he entered the Benedictine monastery of St. Vincent in the duchy of Benevento.
Having been ordained a priest in 761, he was elected as abbot sixteen years later and died on 30 January 784.
"He was monk and abbot during a time marked by great political tensions, which also had repercussions on the internal life of the monasteries", something also reflected in his writings, said the Holy Father. "He decried, for example, the contradiction between the splendid outward aspect of the monasteries and the tepidity ('tepiditas') of the monks themselves". In his ascetic tract "Conflictus vitiorum" (Conflict between the Vices and the Virtues) he seeks "to teach monks how to face the spiritual struggle in daily life".

"Observing the lust for profit of the rich and powerful members of the society of his time, he felt moved to write a tract especially for them, 'De cupiditate' in which, with the Apostle Paul, he denounced greed as the root of all evil", said the Holy Father, highlighting how, "in the light of the current world economic crisis, this still has great relevance. From this root, from greed, this crisis was born".
Autpert's teaching also has relevance "for mankind in this world. The rich have the duty to struggle against greed, against the desire to possess, to show off, against a false concept of freedom understood as being able to dispose of everything in accordance with one's own will. The rich must also discover the authentic path of truth, love and a just life".

The Pope went on: "Ambrose Autpert's most important work is his ten-volume commentary on the Book of Revelation, ... the first in-depth commentary in the Latin world on the last book of Holy Scripture". In this work Autpert makes it clear that "the Church cannot be separated from Jesus Christ. He is the Mediator and the Church participates in such mediation because she is His Body".
Autpert also "looks to Mary as a model of the Church", recognising that the Virgin has "a decisive role in the work of Redemption". Thus, "with good reason is he considered the first great Marian theologian of the West. Mercy, which he felt must free the soul from attachment to worldly and transitory pleasures, must be united to a profound study of the sacred sciences, especially meditation on Holy Scripture"
.
"In Ambrose Autpert we see a person who lived in a time of great political manipulation of the Church, a time in which nationalism and tribalism disfigured her face. Yet amidst these difficulties, which we too also experience, he was able to discover the true face of the Church in Mary and the saints, and thus he understood what it means to be Catholic, to be Christian, to live from the Word of God, to enter into its profundity and so experience the mystery of the Mother of God. ... Let us listen to this message and ask the Lord to help us live the mystery of the Church, also in our own time", the Pope concluded.

Cheney's Last Stand

Will be On The Stand

Cheney continues to defy logic and reason and attempt to justify the Bush Administration torture policy, done with his full knowledge and duplicity.
The lame tired argument he repeats in the msm is that it apparently worked because it kept us safe for 7 years. We were "safe" on US soil since Pearl Harbor and before that the war of 1812 until Cheney and Bush took office-
You do realize, gullible public, that of course, 9-11 could NEVER have happened without the prior knowledge and duplicity of the government at the highest level and I am talking to you Cheney. Perhaps this is your legacy- and one day, Lord willing, you will have to answer to the American people for it.

On Earth Day

For his landmark efforts in legislating protections for domestic violence victims.

And the blogomaniacs will explode with vitriol and indignation. Some Bishop in Kansas will call it "war" and wonder why some people think them rather discourteous and not helpful rhetorical firebombers. Bishop after Bishop will come out registering deeper and deeper indignation. Funds and Foundations will scream, and scream for more funding. People whose name rhymes with Sweden will call the press to call upon the disbarment of all the lesbian heretics at Georgetown who possibly could honor the infanticidal Biden and demand he not be allowed to partake of the eucharist at Holy Trinity because he is "pro-choice."

And I will refrain from comment- no need to step foot in the fray here-not because I am the slightest ashamed of the Gospel or Christ---- instead I will be smelling the flowers. (leave the political self-destruction to others bigger mouthed.)

It's earth day. Peace on Earth and all that good stuff.

Another Reason to Kiss a Jesuit.

At the Conference held in Geneva called the Durban conference some wanted to throw it off track. Undeterred, the Vatican reiterated a commitment to elimination of racism in all forms.

Today, the Holy See reiterated [Jesuit] Father Lombardi's comments with a press statement.

The declaration noted: "[The Vatican] press office wishes to recall the words of Pope Benedict XVI, who said last Sunday: 'I express heartfelt prayers that the delegates present at the Geneva Conference will work together, in a spirit of dialogue and mutual acceptance, so as to put an end to every form of racism, discrimination and intolerance, thereby marking a fundamental step towards the affirmation of the universal value of human dignity and human rights, within a framework of respect and justice for every person and every people.'"

The statement went on to say that the Holy See "deplores the use of this United Nations forum for the adoption of political positions, of an extremist and offensive nature, against any state."
"This does not contribute to dialogue and it provokes an unacceptable atmosphere of conflict," it added. "What is needed, instead, is to make good use of this important opportunity to engage in dialogue together, according to the line of action that the Holy See has always adopted, with a view to effectively combating the racism and intolerance that still today affect children, women, those of African descent, migrants, indigenous peoples etc. in every part of the world. The Holy See, in renewing the Pope's appeal, reiterates that its own delegation at the conference is working in this spirit."

Another Area Where the Bishops Agree with OBAMA

CUBA

http://www.zenit.org/rssenglish-25670

If we want to assist in the development of post-Castro CUBA into the freedoms of speech, press, religion/worship etc. we do it best by engaging not disengaging and punishing. SANCTIONS hasn't much worked there because the Europeans just picked up the slack and
sold/traded what we wouldn't just handicapping our commerce. That's just strategically dumb and getting old at this point. People hardly remember now why we are supposed to be mad at them. Long gone are the days where we hid under our desks for the Red Scare. So the oil companies are still mad Cuba nationalized them. Get over it already. That is what OPIC Risk insurance is for.

You often just invoke more entrenched resentment when you attempt to penalize
a society rather than constructively engaging them into the light.

We need to open doors so we can bring CUBA back into our extended family fold of free nations.
Apparently the Bishops agree and like the lean of Obama's direction in this regard.

How good it is when brothers can dwell together in unity.

Psalm 7
Plea for Help against Persecutors
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjaminite.

O LORD my God, in you I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers, and deliver me, or like a lion they will tear me apart; they will drag me away, with no one to rescue. O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, if I have repaid my ally with harm or plundered my foe without cause, then let the enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and lay my soul in the dust. Selah

Rise up, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake, O my God; you have appointed a judgment. Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered around you, and over it take your seat on high. The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous, you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God. God is my shield, who saves the upright in heart.

God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day. If one does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and strung his bow; he has prepared his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. See how they conceive evil, and are pregnant with mischief, and bring forth lies. They make a pit, digging it out, and fall into the hole that they have made. Their mischief returns upon their own heads, and on their own heads their violence descends. I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

Torture Memos-UNACCEPTABLE

It's official. There were at least four (4) memos justifying and defining permissible TORTURE--against International Law, against the Geneva Conventions, against the Military Code and against the Moral Order and everything that makes us safe.

So now we know, and we need accountability.

It does no service to the country to sweep it under the rug in the interest of not ticking off those just following orders. If there is no ACCOUNTABILITY then there is no Justice.

And if there is no JUSTICE -then the whole thing is a joke. And that is UNACCEPTABLE.

A Call To Love

Yes, Please.
Enticing Title.

It's the new book out by Carl Anderson, Grand PooBah, Supreme Knight of Columbus ("the world's largest Catholic service organization which owns/runs a billion dollar insurance business), and a theological priest professor at Catholic U. Fr. Jose Granados. "Called to Love" may be purchased at the CIC (http://www.cicdc.org/). They gave a brief talk today at the Catholic Information Center and signed books. I will read and review it later.
Carl Anderson, who taught for years at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family (and is a married family man) said that the "new evangelism" calls for new innovative ways to spread the gospel. Fr. Granados encouraged that the meaning of the Gospel should compel a powerful "yes" from people, (just as Mary's "yes" incarnated the greatest Love on the Planet). The book is supposed to be a new lay-friendly exposition on the Theology of the Body. That term throws off and turns off some people but this book hopes to retrieve the gems of JPIIs thoughts on this, which were rather progressive and ancient at the same time, in a new understandable jargon.

I see right out of the box that old Catholic buggaboo (I say through an old Presbyterian lense) which tends to confuse all emotion with sensuality and dismiss it all throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. That may be an unfair reading at first blush- so you get the book and tell me what you think.

Thanks to the CIC for kindly hosting these enriching interesting events-

From the Sublime to the Ridiculous

In a Slow News Day

The non-news has hit it big time today; both the Washington Post today and Channel 4 gave play and coverage to that ridiculous issue of the fact that a black triangle obfuscated the "IHS" golden logo (meaning Jesus from some latin initials) above Obama's head at his economic speech at Georgetown after the cabal of conservative right winged bloggers raised holy Hell over it- (I will suppress hitting the button that sings "sha na na na, sha na na na na get a life, sha na na na ....)
Channel 4 actually interviewed a few people (aired this morning) who unanimously said "it's a policy speech, who cares if the initials were covered up" (paraphrased) in various incantations. Someone obviously looking at the press (C-Span et al) play indicated that it would look like a cleaner line with the flag backdrop if initials didn't appear above his head. Who knew if the 1st Amendment advisors also chimed in on the establishment clause issue. (the establishment clause states that congress shall make no law establishing any religion- so technically it didn't apply but it has come to mean a clean respect for the church-state divide.)
Who cares, indeed- none of the other christian symbols were obfuscated- and everyone knew it was in a Jesuit school. They didn't plaster over the stained glass windows which have biblical allegorical significance. They didn't put dresses on the naked Jesus on the cross, like Ashcroft draped Lady Justice at the Justice Department did they? They didn't rip the crosses off the students at the door. Obama actually referenced in his speech the Sermon on the Mount which he knows everyone who knows what that is knows that the Sermon was delivered by the Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth.

I can only imagine what would have taken place if Obama stood directly underneath the IHS on camera-the blogosphere would have exploded with cries of "Who does he think he is!! JESUS!" or "Mocking everything Sacred there stood Obama in cynical arrogant contradiction and juxtoposition to the IHS above his head..." If Notre Dame doesn't secularize its stage expect this sort of tripe times a thousand. Because there are some nasty bigots who just are never going to like our first African American President.

The great moral of this story is- you can't win with these people. So stop trying. Stop stooping to them. You won. They didn't. The conservative religious wacked have determined to trash and undermine at every opportunity everything OBAMA because they just can't stand him. So don't apologize and stop trying to cater to them. Don't invite people you know are going to use the opportunity to completely trash you in five languages to the press balcony of events. Don't answer questions like-who exactly told them to cover up the Holy Name- as they curse you under their breath.

Bless your small minded persecutors and just move on. You have bigger fish to fry.

Susan Boyle- the Accidental Singing Sensation

This shy Scot from a collection of villages was cheered on by her entire church after wowing the skeptical judges on Britain's version of American Idol -(no age discrimination there). The video of her "I dreamed a dream" is posted below. You can't miss it as today it hit all of the Today Show, CNN, and the Early Morning Show.

SUSAN BOYLE! You've gone global!

This sweet almost 48 year old woman who has never been married and never been kissed sparkled purity and resilient hope- a hope that endured with her "dream" for 47 years. Bless her heart and best to you Lassie from across the Pond.

Now get those those British talent scouts over here to DC so I can audition.
Here's my bio- I'm a quasi-nerdy 48 year old never married half-burned out lawyer whose passion is singing in dimly lit churches when no one is around but the hunchback of Notre Dame.
I aspire to be the American version of Susan Boyle- only you are welcome to make me over, as I am a bit less pure than the 47 year old scottish virgin. I've been kissed in a reckless youth (but repented!) and enjoy the occassional pedicure and leg waxing. Bring it on Simon! I'm waiting!

Montreal CARDINAL has a few words

'On the pope's condoms remarks, Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte [Montreal Cardinal, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Claude_Turcotte], it would be "ridiculous" to suggest that the Pope said condoms should not be used.
"Essentially, the pope said that it took two things to fight this disease, the means, but also a change of mentality. He pronounced this sentence to show that condoms were not in and of themselves the perfect solution; we took his words out of context and all this was largely amplified."
"As if the pope had said that condoms should not be used. This is ridiculous! When someone has AIDS, it is his or her responsibility to protect the people with whom he or she has intercourse."

The latter comment certainly seems to be where mainstream Catholic teaching is, even in the Vatican! I think his take on the pope's intent probably spot-on. His remarks about the girl in Brazil will likely be less well-received, because he said publicly what many only say--or think--privately. '

Note to File: the misinformation continues to feed the fundraising beast- and some 40,000 signatures now gather to support the distorted version of the remarks.

Curia-sly Cracked

The Religious Wrong

The pictures of Archbishop Dolan's installation (from, inter alia, http://www.americanpapist.com/ ) provokes the following thought: What's wrong with this picture?

All Men. All single men. All single men, some more prominent of whom wearing florescent pink/red with what appears to be parts of women's lace slips.
That's because Jesus said if you follow me you must dump all the women, ALL become eunichs, and dress like transvestites from a bad 50s fashion show. (NOT!)

None of these men naturally fathered any child (or they would be investigated by the Vatican) None of these men have wives for whom they are the slightest bit cognizant of their emotional well being.

Which is why they can be blithering bullying morons when it comes to women's emotional well-being- at times and why they send out surrogate pit bull women to cover their abuse in this regard. It is also why their credibility on the life issue is undermined Ontologically by what and who they are without any room for intelligent debate on things like the married priesthood.

It is to say the least ironic that the rallying cry of the Religiously whacked is this pro-life issue of protecting the "unborn" when some of their policies ensure un-birth, when they at times persecute women of child-bearing age, and when they are some of the most oppressively anti-life people in their bullying bravado of presumed religious superiority persecuting those actually called by God-for the express reason of the fact that they can't deal with them as women. They do in fact defeat the very important purpose with their strategies because they don't operate from a place of Love. They operate from a place of human personal power.

Jesus never banned anyone- except Peter whom he told to "Get Behind Me Satan." Think about it.
There is just no evidence whatsoever that Jesus, who had a right to be "self-righteous" because he is the source of all righteousness directly derived from the Father, ever was an imperious nasty Ass.

Dominicans like to ban anyone they think isn't on the same page as them when they are being
the most Un-Christ -like, Un-Loving, Un-Holy people making the Pharisees look like Mother Theresa.
I have to laugh. Out Loud. If I have to choose between the presumed piety of the religious wrong and Jesus- I choose Jesus. Silly me.

The doctrinal invalidity of women's emotional life is truly really evil stuff. I once heard a priest mock "feelings" stating somthing like --it all went wrong in the '70s when everyone started talking about "feelings" like "how does that make you feel" as if feelings were a dirty deligitimate concern-especially women's feelings- truly mockworthy according to this priest. "Feelings" or "Emotions" are something that a court will consider in cases of "Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress", a claim for which one can get monetary compensation, or in the family law/divorce context, issues of "emotional cruelty" such as accompanies typically adultery. There is a body of moral teaching now considering "emotional adultery" in the "office wives" context, and emotional harm is every bit as insidiously evil as physical harm-- more so in some cases. The law has long recognized this. The church operates outside the law in this regard- because anyone who challenges it is persecuted viciously.

Women's "feelings" or emotions feature in aspects of hormonal change, and upset therein can actually in some cases upset the PH uterine balance to a degree that miscarriages can result.
Feelings are part of the endocrine system- they are there by design, by God, the designer.

The fact that priests are so clueless about the emotional lives and dimensions of women means that they are not facilitating life- they are operating from a NOT LIFE posture- because women do not bring Life into the world if they are not emotionally in a space to do so or consistently harmed emotionally from those to whom they look for spiritual strength. They talk, almost in every Mass about "let us lift up our hearts" without the first clue about the emotional state or well being of the women in front of them to a degree where they are negligently guilty of serious emotional cruelty in some cases.

This is really evil stuff. And it really has to change.

Happy Feast Day

The Presidential Prayer Team- sign up and pray for our President and his Administration and Family

www.PresidentialPrayerTeam.org

O God, who for our redemption gave your only begotten Son to death on the Cross, and by his glorious resurrection has delivered us from the power of our enemy: Grant that we who celebrate with joy the day of our Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit.

Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection, empowered and transformed by your grace in and among us.
O Lord, so stir up in your church, indeed in each of us, that Spirit of adoption and reconciliation that is made possible by your grace revealed in Jesus the Christ, that we being renewed in both body and mind, may worship and serve you in sincerity and truth. We pray this in the name of the same Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (from The Book of Common Prayer)

EASTER QUOTE
Benjamin Warfield.
Had Christ not risen we could not believe Him to be what He declared Himself when He "made Himself equal with God." But He has risen in the confirmation of all His claims. By it alone, but by it thoroughly, is He manifested as the very Son of God, who has come into the world to reconcile the world to Himself. It is the fundamental fact in the Christian's unwavering confidence in "all the words of this life." — Benjamin B. Warfield, pastor and theologian

OBAMA- A REAL FAMILY MAN

helping the kiddies on the White House Easter Egg hunt.
Dear Members of the Virtual Salesian Community

-We have begun the period of fifty days between Easter and Pentecost that the Church celebrates as one continuous feast - "one great Sunday" as St. Athanasius once penned - during which we contemplate the power and promise of the Resurrection. When commenting on the immensity of this redemptive act in the life of Jesus - and in the lives in each and every one of us - perhaps less is more. At the end of Book IX of his Treatise on the Love of God, Francis de Sales wrote: "Let us take up the affections suitable to the service of charity, so that we may die naked upon the cross with our divine Savior and afterwards rise again with him in the new man. 'Love is strong as death,' to enable us to forsake all other things. It is as magnificent as the resurrection to adorn us with glory and honor."During this Easter season, may we experience the uplifting - and redemptive - power that comes with dedicating ourselves to the "service of charity." That is, to the love of God and one another.
