Saturday at the Tomb

Today the rain fell
after the quake
and Mary Magdalene stayed
at the wake
cried all night and hung her head
couldn't get herself out of bed

Today the rain fell
and garden flowers wept
outside the stone tomb
she slept

They should just bury me too
when your heart is dead
there is nothing left she thought
to carry her dream dreadfully
dashed with the gashes of a scourging
bled on her cheeks. There's nothing left
and nowhere to go. There's nothing to dream
and no one to show. There's nothing to do
there's nothing to be. He's gone for good
and there's nothing more to me.

They should just bury me too
when your heart is dead, she said despondently
to the willow weeping under the barren
fig tree.
