The church has had its fair share of miscreants in authority. The article on the cover of today's Washington Post (page 1) about the official Irish government report on the thousands of children in Catholic run schools subject to insufferable unimaginable abuse, physical, sexual, and emotional humiliations on all levels is beyond disturbing and affirms that a white Roman collar is not a guarantee of anyone's sanctity.
But lets not forget that this is the same Church which fostered brilliantlly beautiful art, worshipful praising music, theology, philosophy, established caring hospitals all over the world, brought Jesus' miraculous healing to those seeking it, disaster relief, and on balance has done far more incredible amounts of good for over two thousand years that far outweighs the blotches and blights on it's history.
Jesus works through his church sometimes in spite of its members. And those who really know him and who really are his children cannot be deterred by any miscreant in authority- because the Lord still rules heaven and earth and all the earth and everything in it is the Lord's.
There is still and always will be reason to Trust Jesus.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, World Without End. Amen.
