When the Religious go Wrong.
The religious "right" (an oxymoron often) are going to huff and puff and try to blow the house down on Sotomayer because of her statement that Judges make policy at a Duke conference. This isn't her judicial philosophy- it is a well known fact. The religious "right" loves it when it works in their favor- like when the California Supreme Court makes the policy the California referendum policy of democratically voting propositions in without a legislative vote is democratically sound- even if there is an undesired outcome acccording to the legislature -as they ruled in the Prop. 8 issue on gay marriage. The religious "right" loves that California made the policy that gay marriage is now banned again in California.
Sotomayer is a superb judge with more judicial experience than anyone sitting on the Supreme Court ever had before their nomination(s). I trust her judgment, fairness and intellect. I trust her as a Catholic. She will be the sixth Catholic on the Supreme Court.
The knee jerk - and I do mean Jerk- response of the GOP to immediately trash anything Obama does that could remotely touch on the abortion issue without one fact is appauling.
Moreover, it's insane if not just completely intellectually dishonest. Every precedent is a policy.
What other brilliant ideas do you all have? I can't wait until someone comments flatteringly that she doesn't sound Puerto Rican.
