Imagine God has an enormous email bulletin board or twitter in box. The senders don't need a hand held device, because the transmission is built into their heart-head configuration.
That is actually sort of how I imagine prayer works. What- you thought God needed Verizon?4G maybe? We are wired for prayer- wired to hear God. That is why Solomon asked for a 'discerning' heart which in the Hebrew actually meant more of a 'listening' heart- one that could get reception clearly. What would 10G look like? (getting closer)
The best mandatory reading I urge everyone to read is "Secrets of a Prayer Warrior" by Derek Prince, who died unfortunately in 2003. It is still the best book on the power of and reason for prayer I have ever read. We are made to be in communication with our creator. You however have to turn the wireless button to 'ON.' Once you do there is a whole world you missed waiting for you.
Catholics will be surprised to learn that even though Derek Prince, a PHD Philosopher from Cambridge in England (raised in India and much later naturalized a US Citizen) is ecumenically nondenominational, he is a big fan of confession. He notes that one of the blockages to effective prayer and getting what you pray for is if you are conscious of sin in your life- if you are bedeviled by the condemnations of sin you are not living in the fullness of faith and confession is the means by which you obtain the forgiveness that purges your sin consciousness transforming it into deeper faith. A good priest is good for a reason.
Faith means both that you believe God exists, and that he rewards those who diligently seek him because his nature is intrinsically purely totally LOVE and GOODNESS. The first part comes easier to some than the later. Those who diligently seek him will diligently seek to purge themselves of bedeviling condemnations because the 'accuser' of the brethren is none other than that fallen angel Satan himself who doesn't want you experiencing the goodness and love with the intensity that God has designed you for. If you don't want that bedeviling nagger living free rein anywhere in your life there is a solution-- Get thee to confession.
This is a vehicle by which His Kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven.
