The Great American

DREAM

The DREAM ACT.
Pass it.
What if you were five years old and your mother brought you here so she could have a job to feed you. All you did was exist as a child needing to be fed. You stayed here, you went to school (she might have worked two jobs cleaning house after house then baby sitting other kids or working a night shift washing dishes at a taquerita) You went to high school. You got good grades. You want to go to college like everyone else in your high school. There's a problem. You are 'illegal' they say.

The people who came here as refugees from the civil wars in El Salvador, Guatemala and the drug wars in Mexico, etc. seeking a basic subsistence level job to keep their children fed are not by far in the majority of instances 'criminals' but are the hard working backbone of a lot of industries and trades now as twenty percent of all Americans have Spanish as their first language (like it or not Pennsylvania.) These people should be just as blessed as the rest of us, their tax revenues would assist our deficit greatly, they have in some cases already served the country in uniform, and they need full recognition as full citizens.

I don't get who could oppose the DREAM Act. What stinginess of heart. These kids did not ask to be brought here-their parents did not have any choice in some cases if they wanted to keep them alive. Anyone who votes against this should be made to go to the poorest village in Honduras or Guatemala and see if they can eek out a living in any trade- to get empathy regarding why someone might move here to escape the poverty and violence.

We are the country of the Huddled Masses. We should want more not less people experiencing the Great American Dream. These people are in some cases bigger patiots than people whose families have been here for generations because they know what a great blessing it is to be on American Soil. Would that we return the gratitude now.
